“In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.” Psalm 56:4

Faith. There's what it comes down to. Trusting in the Lord.

Studying and seeking and understanding.....all of that has it's place and is biblically mandated to us as Christians. But honestly, sometimes we think too much. Sometime we let our selves get in the way.

We let the flesh get in the way too often. The flesh brings its lusts and its ideas and its agenda and its interpretations.

The Psalmist here tells us that he has put our trust in God.

Today, we put our trust in God if “He gives us a sign;” if everybody else is in agreement; when conditions are right; or as long as I can see all the people and resources I need.

So trust in Him. Your faith is not misplaced if you are following Him.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Today we celebrate the graduates of 2026.

Here's the thing though. We've seen a lot of people graduate. You've walked your own journey, whether it was through high school graduation or not. Yet you could probably give your own sermon of advice as these tackle the road that lays before them.

Some have found success on their road. Some have found defeat. Joy. Pain. Sadness. Victory.

Most likely, it's a little bit of both.

You may have words that will uplift those early in their journey. Encouragement and hope.

But some may speak words of dread. Fear and defeat.

Here's the main thing we need to speak – Jesus.

Look at the words of Proverbs 3.

“Lean not unto thine own understanding”

“He shall direct they paths.”

That is the most important aspect of life. Follow the path He has set for you.

I don't care if you are graduating kindergarten, high school college, or if you're out trying to survive in the world. You need Him and His guidance. Period.

“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.” Psalm 122:1

“ From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.” Epheisans 4:16

I'm afraid that these aren't the verses when people think of anymore when church comes up these days.

Why are people no longer “glad” when they go to the house of the Lord. Because we have made church something other than what it 's supposed to be.

Maybe it's the pastor who was careless with His words. Maybe it is the people who won't shake your hand - or the ones who won't start shaking your hand. Maybe it's the hypocrite who sits on the front row.

I acknowledge that church and its people have- at times – done the church no favors. There is no good reason for the church to cause pain and grief unnecessarily. The church should not be focused on keeping others in line. Our job is to obey our Lord and Savior.

Maybe the old joy of worship has been robbed by skewed priorities and scattered focus.

How do we get that joy back ?– by regaining the focus. God is the source of joy. When the pastor, choir, or other person becomes the reason you go to church, church will easily lose it's joy.

But when you go for Christ – His Love Never Fails!

“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.” Proverbs 31: 30-31

Happy Mother's Day!

We celebrate mothers today and all that they have done for us – the sacrifices made, the love shown, and the little things that most people will never see.

We celebrate our actual mothers and the mother figures in our life. There are many who show us love and support even when there isn't a direct family connection.

Yet the most important aspect of motherhood is following the Lord. Despite beauty and skill and knowledge and experience and even sacrifice, it is the mother that fears God who truly earns praise.

As we celebrate our mothers today during our morning service, thank you Nancy Bruce for being the creative genius behind this beautiful arch. Our attendees can use this today to take pictures with their family and honor their mothers and other loved ones.

Join us this morning as we both honor our mothers and bring glory to God through worship.

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:8-9

Sometimes there doesn't seem to be enough time. Yes, when we are disciplined with our time, we can maximize our use of it and accomplish quite a bit.

But sometimes there is much that seems out of our control and it would be nice if we just had a few more hours in each day to get more done – or have more time to relax – or to just not feel rushed.

Yet with all of that understanding, sometimes we end up wasting time – we get lazy, we get careless, we get tired. Have you ever slept through a work shift or a class or even church?

Yet Peter tells us “the Lord is not slack concerning His promise.” This means intentional slackness and unintentional slackness.

He holds time in His hand and understands it better than each of us. The words in verse 8 are not intended as a formula or a specific conversion, but to clarify that we should not apply our human limitations to God.

God understands His timing and will better than any of us. And He uses that in His mercy towards us. It says that His patience is not weakness or lack of control, but the willingness that none of us shall perish.

God truly desires good for us. That included our life here, but also eternally.

These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.” 2 Peter 2

Have you ever gone to McDonalds and ordered a taco? If you have, then you probably didn't get what you asked for. Because McDonalds doesn't serve tacos. Tacos aren't why you go to McDonalds.

So what if you have a spiritual need? McDonalds can help you with that just as much as they can with tacos.

But here's the thing, we (as a nation and a church) are constantly going to a source for spiritual guidance that has no aptitude for spiritual guidance.

The enemy is the “father of lies” and seeks to infiltrate the church with these falsehoods. And the church greedily devours the false spiritual tacos without using discernment or wisdom.

Peter calls these teachers of false doctrine “wells without water.” We seek to quench our thirst from sources that can't help us.

Yet there is a place where we can get what we need.

“Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:13-14

“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago. Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have. For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.” 2 Corinthians 8:9-12

Thank God for loving and giving hearts. He has called us to give according to what we have.

That refers to what we have monetarily – yes.

But that's not all that He means. He means to give according to our abilities and according to our time and to our energy.

If an individual were to gift the church $1,000, I would be excited, pleased, and thankful.

But a person who offers there time to clean the church and the bathrooms – well, that's a pretty valuable gift also. And someone who is capable and willing that will work with the youth and the children. And the person who gets in the choir every Sunday with no thought of compensation except for the opportunity to lead in worship and to honor God.

Praise God for such beautiful and cheerful giving.

These drums pictured were a precious gift from a member, given a few years ago. They have been a tremendous blessing to the church. Recently, someone reached out and offered to clean them and repair them. That may seem unimportant to some people – but thank God for the abilities and passions He has put in others life.

I (as the pastor) am passionate about our church – it's viability, it's effectiveness, and it's continuous focus to honor God. But there are so many details that are outside of my talent scope and sometimes outside of my focus.

But God has given to each as He has seen fit, different passions and discretion that help us come together to truly put forth an effort to honor Him.

We are one body. Thank God.

Let us work together in Him as we build the Kingdom of God on the foundation that has already been laid.
