“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago. Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have. For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.” 2 Corinthians 8:9-12
Thank God for loving and giving hearts. He has called us to give according to what we have.
That refers to what we have monetarily – yes.
But that's not all that He means. He means to give according to our abilities and according to our time and to our energy.
If an individual were to gift the church $1,000, I would be excited, pleased, and thankful.
But a person who offers there time to clean the church and the bathrooms – well, that's a pretty valuable gift also. And someone who is capable and willing that will work with the youth and the children. And the person who gets in the choir every Sunday with no thought of compensation except for the opportunity to lead in worship and to honor God.
Praise God for such beautiful and cheerful giving.
These drums pictured were a precious gift from a member, given a few years ago. They have been a tremendous blessing to the church. Recently, someone reached out and offered to clean them and repair them. That may seem unimportant to some people – but thank God for the abilities and passions He has put in others life.
I (as the pastor) am passionate about our church – it's viability, it's effectiveness, and it's continuous focus to honor God. But there are so many details that are outside of my talent scope and sometimes outside of my focus.
But God has given to each as He has seen fit, different passions and discretion that help us come together to truly put forth an effort to honor Him.
We are one body. Thank God.
Let us work together in Him as we build the Kingdom of God on the foundation that has already been laid.
