“Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb. For my name's sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off. Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.” Isaiah 48: 8-11

What He is doing in you, He is doing for a reason. He said that I tried you not in a fire like silver, but in the furnace of affliction.

He knows your scars and damage. He knows the pain you've received and the pain you've caused. Yet He uses the harshness of this world to help you find new life as the powerful and beautiful creature whom He created.

Yet, for all your battles and triumphs and defeats, He is doing this for His glory. Humble yourself and understand that this is for His glory and not yours. And when you feel defeated, God is never defeated. He is not caught unawares.

In His hand is the best place I can ever be.

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” James 4: 8-10

What is the way up? By kneeling down. We are taught in this world to fight our way to the top.

Here's the secret. You'll never win. Even if you get to the top of this world's mound, will your perch their be worth the stains and scars on your soul.

But down on my knees....that's where I learned to stand.

I walk with confidence because He holds my hand.

My strongest moment is when I'm leaning on Him. I've put aside all of me, and I trust only on Him.

If you want your words to power, meaning, or value – then humble yourself. That's when He'll lift you up. And only when He lifts you up are you truly lifted.

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21

You have a reason to live. Your life has purpose.

That purpose is Christ.

Would you as a Christian say that there is nothing greater in existence than Christ? If that is true, then there is nothing greater than the purpose of a Christian life.

“For me to live is Christ...”

Embrace that purpose. Stop letting the world define your worth. Live in the beauty and power of Christ.

Yet when it's time for that life to end and for that purpose to come to a close – there is still no reason to despair. For “to die is gain.”

In Christ, there is value to us (and to Him) regardless of our earthly status.

Embrace it. Because to live in Christ is to truly experience life.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.” Psalm 46: 1-4

Why do we invite people to church?

Because we want a larger attendance for our records?

To be able to present our various church ministries?

Maybe so they can give in the offering?

So we can recruit members and volunteers and talent.

In all honesty, there's a hint of truth in all those answers. But none of those answers hold the whole truth.

We want to introduce people to the peacemaker and refuge. We want to present hope, peace, love, and joy. We want to share the light – not the one we produce, but the one that is produced within us because of our relationship with Christ.

We are not a perfect people. But we serve a perfect God.

And even when the world around us crumbles, we can stand confidently knowing that we are loved by Him.

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:9

The opportunities that this world offers can certainly provide uncertainty, anxiety, and fear. When we move forward through these times in our lives, it can be overwhelming at times.

As kids start back the school year, we may just look at is as another routine part of life. But some may be nervous and apprehensive based on the various circumstances that come their way.

In high school, I was an honors student, but there was one class I dreaded with infinite dread – keyboarding. I heard you had to be able to type so many words a minute. We had never had a computer in my house, I had very little experience and knowledge with them, and I couldn't imagine the shame I would feel for failing high school because of a dumb computer.

You may look at me in derision for my fear....or you may understand exactly what I'm talk about with your own source of unfettered anxiety. Regardless of our thoughts about each challenge, if it's real to the child/student, then it makes an impact on their life and mental processes.

Yet the Lord told us to be courageous. Be strong. Be trusting in the source of our power.

We don't walk through those halls alone. We don't face each test and trail by ourselves. We don't have to succumb to the powers of uncertainty and fear.

For He is with us.

We would love to have you in church with us today.

“And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased, And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?”

Here I am to worship, here I am to bow down.

We come before the Lord to worship Him and magnify His name. It's a beautiful and incredible experience, yet so simple that a child could do it.

We thank God for our children and youth and celebrate those ministries this week with our Bible School. The praise of children should never be silenced, as the verse above declares. However, we want to bring them to the forefront this week to teach them the Word of God and help encourage the love of worship within them.

I am excited about this morning sermon of a “More Excellect Way” and then we turn our attention to VBS as it starts at 6 pm tomorrow night.
