Our History
Spring City Baptist Church was founded May 27, 1936 in the Spring City community of Russell County, Virginia. After Dr. Stinson, God placed Reverend A. Monday as pastor for approximately ten years. Odum from Bristol, Virginia was named pastor in 1955. Pastor Odum served the church for 37 years, 1955 through 1992. In 1960 the parsonage was constructed across the street from the church
to house the pastor and his family. A new brick church was constructed in 1964 and the sanctuary was expanded to its current size in 1976. Pastor W. Odum served God and his congregation until his death at the age of 80. Brent Logan from Decatur, Alabama was serving as associate pastor and was called to the position of pastor in 1992 and led the church to a greater ministry in missions at home and around the world. A wing was added to the church building in 1995 and houses several classrooms and offices. Spring City Baptist School was established in 1996 and has trained many young people as ambassadors for Christ in many areas of Christian service. A fellowship hall was built in 1999, housing a prophet’s chamber, kitchen and large activity space. It was dedicated as the W.L. Odum Fellowship Hall in 2004. In 2003 Pastor Brent Logan and his family answered God’s call to the mission field and have been serving in Eastern Europe, particularly in Romania, through the present time. Scott Suttle, from Swannanoa, North Carolina was serving as associate pastor and was called as pastor. He and his family are serving the church at this time. Currently Spring City Baptist Church supports over 120 missionaries with four missionary families coming directly from the congregation. The church continues to spread the gospel through many ministries including a publishing room on Main Street in the town of Lebanon. Public ministries include a float ministry, street preaching, tract distribution, house to house visitation, a local radio broadcast and many other areas. The church is home to the Baptist Radio Network which broadcasts preaching and Christian music around the world through the internet. God has blessed the congregation with men and leaders who have maintained the vision of seeing souls saved and lives changed through the presentation of the gospel as presented in the Authorized King James Bible. As we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Spring City Baptist Church and the 400th Anniversary of the King James Bible, there is a renewed commitment to continue the ministry of the church until Christ returns.
