Recent pseudoscience making headlines:

Daraprim is a half-century old drug that does not in any way benefit cancer patients or HIV or AIDS patients unless they are infected with malaria or another deadly parasite.

As such is the case with fifty year old inventions, this drug is free-of-the-art meaning if any large group of people really had reason to care whether the drug was $13 or $750, then any generic drug company could enter the market and make and sell the drug.
Alas, no generic drug company exists because there is hardly market for the drug as most people have developed resistance to it...and it does more harm than good.

Martin Shkreli is purported as a scapegoat by the media. Welcome to biotech, this happens all the time. Only, this time, the media got crazy.
He's just a businessman and he might actually do some good if he gets funding to make this outdated drug a lot better, which was probably his goal with the price hike.

"Daraprim might give you cancer if you take it."
Just say that to people who'd rather read headlines about Shkreli destroying the lives of cancer patients instead of reading research papers and facts.

Jerry Coyne, like biblical literalists, is blind to centuries of scholarly nuance and tradition.

When I was a high school senior in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 2010, I began a campaign to repeal my state’s “creationism law,” which allows teachers to sneak religion into public school science classes by using materials that criticize evolution. Seventy-eight Nobel laureates and many other prominen…
