Our top priority is to train future men and women who will have strong character and make a difference in this world for God's Kingdom while having fun at the same time. We've all seen the statistics about how young people are leaving the church in droves after they reach college. A primary reason for this is that the foundation was not laid when they were children. Many times children are taught
scripture like it is a book of nice stories about how to be kind, sharing, good, etc. . . It is God's story being weaved throughout human history. It is Truth. Our goal in the children's ministry here at The Church at Grace Point is to raise future men, women, leaders, and world changers who will stand firm in their faith and change the world for God's Kingdom. You may be wondering what our mission statement is all about. We specifically point out "partnering with families" in our mission statement because the family is such an integral part of a child's journey. We only have them in church two to three hours a week. A parent is a child's greatest influence. We support our parents through events where both children and parents can serve our community together, activities, camps, and take home resources for families to continue learning throughout the week what we are teaching each Sunday and Wednesday. We want our children to "run towards the hard things." It is the difficult things in our lives that build character, perseverance, and hope. We are witnessing in the news every day a generation of young people who are having a difficult time handling the set backs and hardships of life. Life hits us hard and the world will come after our children with all of its might. For our children to be world changers for God's Kingdom, they must run towards the heat of battle, not away. This will help them become "mountains of faith that the world can never move and change." It is also through the "hard things" that we learn our trust can only be in "God alone." Each part of The Ascent Logo is symbolic of what we are seeking to instill in our children:
Grey=Timelessness and Solidity
Peak 1. Faith
Peak 2. Character
Our prayer is to see our children develop faith and character that is as timeless and solid as God character and Truth. Green=Growth
Peak 1. Relationship
Peak 2. God’s Word
Peak 3. The Spirit
Peak 4. Discipleship
Faith and character are supported by growth in four areas. Our payer is for each of our children to first have a relationship with Christ, grow in the knowledge of His Word, growth in the power of His Spirit, and growth through living His Word and teaching others to do the same. Blue=Perseverance/Loyalty
Blue means perseverance and loyalty. Our children must learn how to persevere and endure to stay loyal to God for a lifetime. Black=Strength
Black means strength. Our children must have God’s strength to stand and accomplish His work
Climbing Axes=Character Development
The climbing axes remind us that character building is hard work and a process that requires chipping away and molding. They are also tools that remind us that we cannot make the ascent for our children, but we can provide them the tools to make it themselves. With all this in mind, this is why we chose Joshua 1:9 as our ministry's theme verse. Joshua needed God's strength and courage to lead Israel into the Promised land. Our children will need God's strength and courage to stand firm and help others find the freedom, hope, and salvation Jesus Christ has to offer. If this vision stirs your heart, I would be honored to speak with you and answer any questions. We would be thrilled to have you and your family join us in our mission. Matthew Dennis
