Our Mayfield Gate entrance is closed due to a water main break until further notice. Visitors may use our Euclid Gate entrance during this time.

Directions to the Euclid Gate entrance:
Travel west on Mayfield Road to Euclid Road, turn right onto Euclid Road, then turn right into the cemetery entrance.

From Florence to Cleveland, Carmela Cafarelli left her mark on the world of music.

Carmela Cafarelli was the first harpist for the then newly formed Cleveland Orchestra—but she didn’t have to pull any strings to be laid to rest in Lake View Cemetery. This titan of the local music scene studied opera in Italy and made her debut in 1923 in Florence. After returning to Cleveland, she founded the Cafarelli Opera Club. Beginning with a performance of “Madame Butterfly,” they continued to present annual operas at the Masonic Auditorium for the next three decades.

This Italian Heritage Month, we’re celebrating Carmela and the many Italian Americans whose talents, traditions, and stories helped shape Cleveland.

It’s Italian Heritage Month, and we’re celebrating some of the stories that are part of Lake View Cemetery—including Nick Orlando. Nick was the longtime head of Orlando Baking Company, the iconic Cleveland source for freshly made bread. Under his tenure, Orlando was the first bakery to recreate Italy’s beloved ciabatta bread in the U.S. (Something we can all be thankful for.) Though he now resides on our grounds, his namesake company still churns out deliciousness daily.
