The Fourth Sorrow: Mary Meets Jesus on the Way to Calvary

Mary sees her Son carrying the Cross.
She cannot remove the Cross from His shoulders. She cannot stop what is happening.

But she can be there.
And she is.
Mary's sorrow reminds us that sometimes we cannot fix another person's suffering. We cannot take away their pain or change their circumstances.

But we can stay.
We can accompany. We can pray.We can love.

Mary teaches us what it means to remain close to someone who is suffering.

Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.

The Third Sorrow: The Loss of Jesus in the Temple

For three days, Mary and Joseph searched for Jesus.
Imagine the worry of a mother who cannot find her child.

When they finally discover Him in the Temple, Mary says, “Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.” (Luke 2:48)
Mary knew what it was like to wonder where Jesus was.

And perhaps that makes this sorrow especially close to our own experience.

There are moments when we feel like we've lost sight of Jesus, when prayer feels difficult, or when God seems far away.

Mary reminds us:
Keep searching for Him.

Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.

The Second Sorrow: The Flight into Egypt

Today, as we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we rejoice in the birth of the woman who would one day become the Mother of our Savior, and we remember that her life with Jesus was not free from fear or uncertainty.

After the birth of Jesus, Herod sought to kill Him. Joseph was warned in a dream, and the Holy Family fled to Egypt.

Mary leaves behind her home and everything familiar, carrying her infant Son into an unknown future. Even in the midst of uncertainty, she trusted God and followed where He led.

She teaches us that trusting God does not always mean knowing what comes next.

Sometimes faith looks like taking the next step, even when the road ahead is uncertain.

Today, we celebrate Mary's beginning and remember the faithful yes that would shape her entire life.

Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.

St. Teresa of Calcutta reminds us that holiness often looks like something small: noticing someone who feels left out, sitting with someone who needs a friend, helping without being asked, choosing kindness when it’s easier not to.

You may not be able to fix every problem around you, but you can love the person right in front of you.

Your St. Teresa challenge: Do ONE small thing today with great love.

Who needs that love from you?

the sights & sounds of serving in youth ministry 🔊👀❤️

This past Saturday 120+ youth ministers and volunteer core team members from around the Diocese of Cleveland (& some from Youngstown & Toledo too!) gathered for a training day called Empower, brought to us by Life Teen

The First Sorrow: Simeon’s Prophecy

Mary’s sorrows begin with a prophecy.

When Mary and Joseph bring the infant Jesus to the Temple, Simeon recognizes Him as the promised Messiah. But his words to Mary contain a warning: “And you yourself a sword will pierce.” (Luke 2:35)

Mary receives this prophecy knowing that the Son she loves is destined to suffer.

She does not turn away.

From the very beginning, Mary says yes, not only to the joy of motherhood, but to the suffering that will come with being the Mother of Christ.

Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.
