No amount of thought will ever result in any greater formulation than the three words, 'Love one another,' so long as it is love to the end and without exceptions

The way to God lies through love of people. At the Last Judgment I shall not be asked whether I was successful in my ascetic exercises, nor how many bows and prostrations I made. Instead I shall be asked did I feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick and the prisoners. That is all I shall be asked. About every poor, hungry and imprisoned person the Savior says 'I': 'I was hungry and thirsty, I was sick and in prison.' To think that he puts an equal sign between himself and anyone in need. . . . I always knew it, but now it has somehow penetrated to my sinews. It fills me with awe.

Paschal Message from His Eminence, Archbishop Alexander of the Diocese of the South to the Clergy and Faithful of the Diocese on the Feast of Holy Pascha

Christ is Risen! Indeed, He is Risen!

Beloved in Christ, Clergy, Monastics, and Faithful of our God-protected Diocese of the South,

With hearts anticipating the Paschal joy, I greet you as we approach this radiant and glorious Feast of Feasts—the Resurrection of our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ! In this Feast we proclaim the victory of life over death, light over darkness, and the triumph of divine love over the power of sin.

As we prepare to celebrate this holy Pascha, let us remember especially the profound significance of Holy Saturday—the day our Lord descended into Hades to shatter its gates and liberate the souls of the righteous. This is the Blessed Sabbath on which God in Christ rests from His work of recreating Adam! The full Paschal mystery encompasses the three days: the Passion, Crucifixion and Death, the Sabbath rest in the tomb, and the glorious Resurrection. Holy Saturday continues a sober reflection on the saving work of Christ through His passion, crucifixion, and death, while at the sametime bringing us to the precipice of the Glorious Resurrection. Participation in the entire sacred Triduum—Holy Friday, Holy Saturday, and Pascha—deepens our understanding of God’s saving work and prepares our souls to receive the Resurrection with greater spiritual clarity.

Finally, Beloved, as we feast, let us do so with holy sobriety, mindful that our celebration is not in indulgence but in joy in the Lord, the Crucified and Risen Christ. Let our tables reflect the spiritual gladness of the season, tempered by gratitude and self-control, that we may honor the Giver of all good things.

May the light of the Resurrection fill your hearts and homes, and may the peace of the Risen Lord abide with you all.

With paternal love and archpastoral blessings,

+Alexander
