How many times do we have to forgive? And what do we do when forgiveness is hard? Join us at Zion United Church of Christ of Tremont this Sunday, September 13, at 11:00 a.m. as we explore forgiveness—not as forgetting hurt or ignoring harm, but as a path toward healing, freedom, and new beginnings.

Our Scriptures—Genesis 50:15–21, Psalm 103:8–13, and Matthew 18:21–35—remind us that there can be grace and accountability, forgiveness and healthy boundaries, truth and compassion.

Looking for a place to gather, reflect, and be reminded that we belong to one another? Join us this Sun. Sept. 6 at Zion Church as we explore what it means to live “Responsible to One Another”—to speak truth with love, listen with humility, seek reconciliation, and care for one another.

On this Labor Day Sunday, we’ll honor the dignity of work and workers while remembering that our worth is not measured by what we produce, but by God’s love for us.

We’ll also celebrate Holy Communion, where all are welcome, and the Zion Choir will share “Breathe on Me, Breath of God.”

God on Broadway: Finding Faith in the Spotlight - Final Sunday — Sun. Aug. 30, 2026 - Building the Beloved Community

Join us this Sunday, August 30, at 11:00 a.m. as we conclude this year’s God on Broadway worship series with the joyful and enduring musical Godspell.

Our theme, “Building the Beloved Community,” asks what it means to take Jesus’ teachings beyond words and put them into practice — creating communities shaped by love, justice, compassion, welcome, and care for one another.

Our Scriptures include Isaiah 58:6–12, with its call to become “repairers of the breach”; Psalm 133, celebrating the blessing of living together in unity; and Matthew 22:34–40, where Jesus brings faith to its heart:

Love God. Love your neighbor as yourself.

Pastor Scott Rosenstein will offer the reflection, “Building the Beloved Community,” and the Zion Church Choir, accompanied by Music Director and Pianist Sonia Xinyuan Hu, will share “Blessed Be the Tie That Binds.”

As our Broadway journey concludes, we carry its invitations with us:

Honor the traditions that give life.
Welcome the stranger.

A few moments from worship at Zion Church as we continued “God on Broadway: Finding Faith in the Spotlight”, inspired by Suffs and “Keep Marching.”

Through music, prayer, and reflection, we honored those who marched before us and recommitted to the work of justice, equality, and hope.

Grateful for our Zion Choir, pianist and Music Director Sonia Xinyuan Hu, and guest vocalist Naomi Columna - and Mousse our canine friend.

The work continues. The hope endures. We keep marching. 💜

When the road toward justice is long…keep marching. This Sunday, August 23, we continue "God on Broadway: Finding Faith in the Spotlight" with inspiration from the Broadway musical Suffs and its powerful theme: “Keep Marching.”

Through Micah 6:6–8, Psalm 126, and Luke 18:1–8, we’ll explore what it means to do justice, hold onto hope, and not lose heart—even when change comes slowly and the work remains unfinished.

The Zion Church Choir, accompanied by Music Director and Pianist Sonia Xinyuan Hu, will share “Let Justice Flow Like Streams.”

And we’re delighted to welcome back guest vocalist Naomi Columna, who, accompanied by Sonia, will close our worship with “Keep Marching” from Suffs.

✈️ What happens when strangers become neighbors?
This Sunday, August 16 at Zion, our "God on Broadway: Finding Faith in the Spotlight" series continues with:

"Come from Away"
“Welcoming the Stranger”

"Come from Away" tells the remarkable true story of the people of Gander, Newfoundland, who welcomed nearly 7,000 airline passengers stranded there following the September 11, 2001 attacks. In a moment of fear and uncertainty, ordinary people opened their homes and hearts—and strangers became neighbors.

This Sunday’s scriptures invite us into that same kind of radical hospitality:

- Love the stranger as yourself. — Leviticus 19:33–34
- Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers. — Hebrews 13:1–2
- And Jesus’ Parable of the Good Samaritan asks us to consider not only “Who is my neighbor?” but “Whose neighbor will I become?”

The Zion Choir will share “Help Us Accept Each Other,” accompanied by Music Director and Pianist Sonia Xinyuan Hu, as together we explore what it means to cross the road, open the door, and make room for one another.

This Sunday, August 9, at 11:00 a.m., join us as Zion begins our new four-week worship series:

"God on Broadway: Finding Faith in the Spotlight"

We begin with the beloved musical "Fiddler on the Roof" and the theme:

TRADITION AND TRANSFORMATION

Like Tevye and his family in the village of Anatevka, all of us know something about trying to keep our balance in a changing world. What traditions ground us? What stories do we pass on? And how can our faith remain deeply rooted while still being open to where God’s Spirit is leading?

Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:4–9 • Psalm 78:1–7 • Matthew 5:13–16

Sermon: "Tradition and Transformation"

The Zion Church Choir, accompanied by Music Director and Pianist Sonia Xinyuan Hu, will share the beautiful hymn “Abide with Me.”

And stay for lunch! Following worship, we’ll gather for a soup lunch, with a special treat prepared by our own Barbara Rossington—a time for food, friendship, conversation, and community.

Marc Chagall’s "The Fiddler (Le Violiniste)," painted in 1912–1913, draws upon the artist’s memories of Jewish life in his native Vitebsk, then part of the Russian Empire (now Belarus). The fiddler—an important figure in Eastern European Jewish community life—evokes celebration, sorrow, faith, and resilience, holding together the joys and uncertainties of life. Chagall’s recurring image of a violinist poised above the village later helped inspire the title and visual imagery of the musical "Fiddler on the Roof," making the painting especially fitting for our reflection on tradition and transformation.

Last summer, Zion United Church of Christ launched a new worship series, “God on Broadway: Finding Faith in the Spotlight,” exploring how Broadway musicals can illuminate timeless themes of faith, hope, justice, and love. The response was wonderful—and we’re excited to return this August with four new Broadway stories and four new opportunities to encounter God’s presence in fresh and meaningful ways.

Join us Sundays at 11:00 a.m., August 9–30, at the Chapel of Zion United Church of Christ, located on the campus of San Sofia Luxury Apartments (2700 W. 14th Street, Cleveland).

Join us this Sunday, August 2, at 11:00 a.m. for worship on the Tenth Sunday after Pentecost at the Chapel of Zion United Church of Christ, located on the campus of San Sofia Apartments (2700 W. 14th Street, Cleveland).

This Sunday, we celebrate Holy Communion—a summer gathering around Christ's welcoming table, where all are invited to receive God's grace and abundant love.

Our scriptures lead us on a journey of transformation:
• Genesis 32:22–31 – Jacob wrestles through the night and discovers that God's blessing often comes through struggle.
• Psalm 17:1–7, 15 – A heartfelt prayer trusting in God's steadfast love and longing to behold God's presence.
• Matthew 14:13–21 – Jesus feeds the five thousand, reminding us that compassion and generosity can overcome every fear of scarcity.

Rev. Scott Rosenstein's sermon, "Wrestling, Hungering, and Being Changed," explores how God meets us in our moments of uncertainty, nourishes us with grace, and transforms us into people of hope, generosity, and compassion.

We are delighted to welcome back our Music Director and Pianist, Sonia Xinyuan Hu, as she accompanies the Zion Choir in the beautiful hymn, "When Peace Like a River (It Is Well with My Soul)."
