Today is the feast day of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a French nun and mystic.
⁣
At 9 years old, she became ill and bed-ridden for four years. Only after she promised to the Blessed Virgin Mary that she would dedicate herself to religious life was she miraculously healed. Thanking Mary for her help, she added the name Mary to her name.
⁣
Margaret entered the convent at the age of 24 and became a nun. It was during this time she received visions and revelations of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and instructions for the First Friday devotion.
⁣
To practice this devotion, one must: attend Mass and receive communion on the First Friday of 9 consecutive months (going to confession beforehand if needed), practice acts of reparation – offering prayers to make up for our sins and the sins of others.
⁣
Many questioned the authenticity of her visions, and it wasn’t until 75 years after her death that the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus became recognized by the Church.

Margaret is the patron of devotees of the Sacred Heart.

Sometimes we make prayer way more complicated than it needs to be.
St. Teresa of Ávila reminds us that prayer is ultimately about friendship with Jesus.
You don't need the perfect words. You don't need to feel super holy. Start by simply showing up and talking to Him.

Today is the feast day of St. Teresa of Avila, a Spanish nun, mystic, and Doctor of the Church.
⁣
She was a member of the Carmelite Convent of the Incarnation in Avila, Spain. Teresa spent much of her life reforming herself and the Carmelites. While she wrestled with illness, she still fought to dedicate her life and work to God. She founded a handful of monasteries and was a powerful writer.
⁣
Two of her most famous writings include the Way of Perfection and The Interior Castle, which served as spiritual and practical guides for Christian living, first within the Carmelites and then to the broader Church.
⁣
In her life, Teresa was a bright shining light to those around her. She is the patron of the sick, religious orders, and Spanish Catholic writers.
⁣

St. Carlo Acutis reminds us that holiness doesn’t mean becoming a different person. It means letting God transform the person you already are.
He loved soccer. He loved his friends. He loved technology. And he loved Jesus.
You don’t have to wait until you’re older, wiser, or “more holy” to start living for God.
The saints started saying yes right where they were. So can you. 🙏
