There was a time when the blessed truth of the eternal security of the believer needed to be stressed, but today special emphasis needs to be put upon the perseverance of the saints instead in order to preserve the balance of truth, for the pendulum has now swung to the opposite side. This balance needs to be restored. Obedience to the Word of God must be stressed sufficiently to make it effective in the lives of professing Christians instead of being soft-pedaled or neglected altogether. Perhaps in an effort to avoid the error of salvation by works we have fallen into the opposite error and falsehood of salvation without works. “The Bible knows nothing of salvation without obedience. It recognizes no faith that does not lead to obedience, nor any obedience that does not spring from faith.” - I.C. Herendeen (1883-1982)

Antinomianism
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Romans 6:1-2 {see also Romans 6:1-5, 15; Jude 1:4}
Consider the destructive, soul damning doctrine of antinomianism.
What is antinomianism?
It is a theological error, an extreme position concerning justification.
It is what I often call a “ditch”.
It is the polar opposite of legalism, which is another ditch.
I believe that antinomianism is more of a mindset than a doctrine.
In other words, for the most part antinomianism is more of a lifestyle or an attitude rather than a belief.
An antinomian says within himself,
“I watch po*******hy on my phone or TV everyday… but I’m so thankful I’m saved and His grace is sufficient!”
or
“I rip people off in my business. Praise God my sins past present and future are under the blood of Jesus!”
or
“I mistreat my spouse but praise God for His amazing grace.”
or
I’m living with my girlfriend but thank God “once saved always saved”!
The Bible gives strong warnings against this kind of attitude.
If you have an antinomian spirit the Bible says you are an enemy of the cross of Christ. {Philippians 3:18-19}
It is an attitude that will carry you to hell.
This is one reason that modern day Christianity is considered by many to be a joke.
People have turned the grace of God into lasciviousness.

I do not come into this pulpit hoping that perhaps somebody will of his own free will return to Christ. My hope lies in another quarter. I hope that my Master will lay hold of some of them and say, "You are mine, and you shall be mine. I claim you for myself."
