Last Sabbath, our 10-14 year old group played Jenga. Jenga & Jesus.
While playing, we discussed the topic of self-control and drew parallels between the game and Jesus' teachings.
In Jenga, players need to maintain stability, balance, and perseverance while carefully removing blocks from the tower without causing it to fall. Similarly, in life, individuals strive to maintain a sense of stability and balance amidst various challenges, which requires self-control.
Jesus often encouraged his followers to have faith, perseverance, and resilience during adversity, and through his teachings and examples, he emphasized the importance of relying on the Father, and self-control. As the children played the game, they recognized that self-control is a skill that requires positive self-talk, believing in oneself, and trusting in God's ability to help them develop this skill.
Luke 21:19: “By your endurance you will gain your lives."
In this verse, Jesus is speaking to his disciples about the hardships they will face in the future and encourages them to have self-control and endurance in the face of adversity. This verse emphasizes the importance of maintaining self-control and perseverance even when faced with difficult circumstances.
Although Jenga & Jesus may seem like an unlikely duo, our group found a common theme in the importance of self-control. We strive to maintain stability, balance, and perseverance in both the game and in life, let us remember Jesus' teachings and Luke 21:19, and keep calm and Jenga on!
