While the building, Clemson Church of God, has been retired, much like an old jersey of a great sports player, the Clemson Church of God congregation remains very much alive in the hearts of its members and attendees. Although most of us have scattered and either went where we all feel God has led us or tried to stay faithful to the church that has absorbed the building, the members of the Clemson Church of God will always be family. We have loved one another, cried together, shared news of good times and bad, helped one another in various ways, and through it all, our church stood tall and firm, but our faith in God remains even stronger.

This end of an era came as a surprise to us all. The church’s aesthetics have changed. The old red brick has been painted white, and the front steps are now seats for beautiful plants that invite newcomers. The fellowship hall now serves as the entrance. The old pews were given away to a wedding venue and replaced with interlocking chairs. The front of the sanctuary is now the back, and the carpet has been replaced with modernized carpet tiles. Despite all these changes, the walls, ceiling, and floors have stood the test of time and would surely tell stories if they could talk. These stories include miracles witnessed, blessings from the Holy Spirit, people being saved, relationships mended, sicknesses healed, and most importantly, the presence of God in the house.

So, to my fellow Clemson Church of God members who may still feel disoriented, disrupted, disturbed, or distressed by all these changes, please don’t feel discouraged or defeated. Whether we worship in the same church house together or miles apart, know that you are still loved by the congregation that you hold dear in your heart. But more importantly, you are loved by the Master himself, Yahweh, and His plans are much bigger than any of us could imagine or hope for. His will is greater than our will, and His comfort is sufficient if we allow Him to comfort us.

I truly love you all and hope I’ve said something that you find encouraging. As my Clemson Church of God Pastor would have said,

IF YOU GO WITH GOD, HE'LL GO WITH YOU!!
