A total of twelve (12) solar street lights were formally turned over to Purok 13 and Purok 20 in Valencia City, Bukidnon on June 14โ15, 2026. This initiative was undertaken by the Davao Episcopal Area (DEA) Disaster Management Office (DMO), with support from the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), as part of its continuing commitment to assist communities affected by disasters.
According to Rev. Marian Joy Talino, DEA-DRRM Volunteer in Bukidnon, Purok 13 and Purok 20 were identified as among the communities most severely affected by the flash floods that struck the area in September 2025. This assessment was based on data gathered in coordination with the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) office.
The turnover of the solar street lights forms part of the DEA-DMOโs long-term recovery and rehabilitation efforts. Earlier, on April 8, 2026, the office distributed food packs, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) supplies, and shelter assistance in the form of cookware and utensils to 200 affected families. During consultations with residents, the need for solar-powered street lighting emerged as a priority concern due to the lack of adequate lighting along community roads.
In his message during the blessing service, Bishop Israel M. Painit emphasized the deeper significance of the project:

The blessing and turnover ceremony was led by Bishop Israel M. Painit, together with the DEA-DMO staff under the leadership of Daniel Ela. Also present were the leaders of Purok 13 and Purok 20, Engr. Riedo A. Panaligan-President of the Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (CREST), Christopher Erezo-Technical Staff of CREST, Rev. Marian Joy Talino, Pastor Janette Saceda, members of the United Methodist Church, and residents of the beneficiary communities.
