“LET THE BIBLE SPEAK”
It is a great blessing to be a citizen of the kingdom of God. We are called to the kingdom through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul wrote these words to the Corinthians: “For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel,” 1 Cor. 4:15. He wrote to the Thessalonians about their glorious call to the kingdom:……”that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory,” 1 Thess 2:12. The gospel invitation to the kingdom is to be heralded throughout the world: King Jesus gave these marching orders to His Apostles: “And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned,” Mk. 16:15-16. Only those who believe the gospel are fit subjects for baptism. By responding to the gospel, by believing and being baptized, they enjoy citizenship in the kingdom of God. This harmonizes with the words of Jesus spoken to the Jewish Rabbi, Nicodemus: “Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’ Nicodemus said to Him, ‘How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?’ Jesus answered, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again,'” Jesus made it clear to this Jewish Rabbi that the only way into the kingdom of God was through water baptism. Philip, the evangelist went down to Samaria and preached Christ to them, Acts 8:5. As a result of his efforts we find that many responded and became citizens of the kingdom of God: “But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized,” Acts 8:12. By their response to the gospel they became citizens of the kingdom of God. This is the prescribed response for those who will enjoy citizenship in the kingdom of God. Only by obeying the gospel can one enjoy the forgiveness of sins and the spiritual blessings apportioned to those who are citizens. The following words were penned to the Christians at Colosse: “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins,” Col. 1:13-14. How did the Colossians become citizens of this glorious kingdom? They were baptized, Col. 2:12.

“LET THE BIBLE SPEAK”
In previous articles we have shown that people of all nations are invited to the kingdom of God. After Jesus arose from the dead He spoke the following words to His Apostles: "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. Matt. 28:18-20. Jesus spoke as one having all authority in heaven and on earth. This authority was given to him by the Heavenly Father. His coronation would be official when He ascended back to heaven. This was foretold in a vision by the Old Testament Prophet, Daniel: "I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed.” Dan. 7:13-14. Shortly after Jesus gave the great Commission to His Apostles, Matt. 28:18-20, He ascended into heaven. This account is given in the book of Acts: “Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.’" Acts 1:9-11. From that time forward the kingdom is spoken of in the present tense. We have this event recorded as Philip, the evangelist carried the gospel down to Samaria: “Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them,” Acts 8:5. As He preached Christ, he told them how they could become citizens of the kingdom of God: “But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized,” Acts 8:12. We recall that Peter was promised the keys to the kingdom of God in Matt. 16:19. He told those gathered on Pentecost: "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call," Acts 2:38-39.

“LET THE BIBLE SPEAK”
In previous articles we have shown that all nations are invited to the kingdom of God. This invitation is extended through preaching the gospel. We read these words spoken by Jesus, following His resurrection, when He commissioned His Apostles: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned,” Mark. 16:15-16. This kingdom had been predicted by the Old Testament prophets. The prophet Daniel spoke of it as a kingdom of endurance, and one universal in scope: “And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever,” Dan. 2:44. This kingdom would be fully established during the days of the Roman Empire, the time of the birth of Jesus Christ. John the Baptist came as a harbinger of Jesus announcing the eminence of His kingdom. “In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!’" Matt. 3:1-2. When he said the “kingdom of heaven is at hand.” He meant that it was very near. He wasn’t speaking of the heavenly reward in this declaration. He was speaking of a heavenly, or spiritual kingdom that man could be a part of while living in this present world. Jesus also came announcing the eminent arrival of His kingdom: “From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand,” Matt. 16:18. It is noteworthy that Jesus came to this world to establish His church. He spoke these words to Peter and the other Apostles: And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." Matt. 16:18-19. It is significant to note that Jesus used the term church and kingdom in this same dialogue. Both terms were spoken of in the future tense. Within this same discussion with His disciples we find these words: “Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom," Matt. 16:28. His Apostles in their lifetime would see the arrival of the kingdom. On the cross Jesus purchased the church with His own blood, Acts 20:28. His triumphant resurrection resulted in the inauguration of His kingdom, Acts 2:31-32. It becomes clear from these scriptures, and others that the church is that spiritual kingdom of which the Old Testament prophets predicted.

“LET THE BIBLE SPEAK”
We noticed in the previous article that salvation is not limited to the Jewish nation. Under the new covenant all who come to the kingdom of God from every nation are the people of God. Jesus made this significant statement in His earthly ministry concerning a Roman Centurion who was a Gentile: "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! And I say to you that many will come from east and west, (Gentiles), and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth," Matt. 8:10-12. Jesus came to establish his kingdom which would embrace all nations who obey His gospel. John the Baptist, the harbinger of Jesus Christ, rebuked the Jews with these sobering words: “But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, ‘Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” Matt. 3:7-10. Jesus told a Jewish Rabbi, that he would have to be born anew to enter the kingdom of God: “There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, ‘Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.’ Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’ Nicodemus said to Him, ‘How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?’ Jesus answered, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God,’” John 3:1-5. In short Jesus told this man, who was a Jew, that he would need to be baptized in water, in obedience to the Holy Spirit to enter the kingdom of God. The Apostle Paul later wrote this to the Galatians: “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise,” Gal. 3:26-27.

“LET THE BIBLLE SPEAK”
Salvation is not limited to the Jewish nation. The Apostle Paul wrote the following in his Epistle to the Romans: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek,” Rom. 1:16. Jesus first came to His own Jewish nation: “He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name,” John 1:12. It was in God’s plan that all nations were to be able to come to the house of God. We read from the Prophecy of Isaiah: “Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD's house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it. Many people shall come and say, "Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore,” Isa 2:2-4. The Lord’s house was spoken of as a peaceful kingdom, where all nations would be invited, and live in peace together. He spoke of this kingdom as the Lord’s house. What is the Lord’s house? We find in the New testament that it is Christ’s church, 1 Tim. 3:15. It is known as the household of God. The Apostle Paul wrote to Gentile Christians, “Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,” Eph. 2:19. The law, (the gospel) was to go forth from Mt. Zion, which is Jerusalem, Isaiah 2:3. It was here that power was given by the Holy Spirit, to the Apostles of Jesus Christ. They were to be the Lord’s witnesses as they spread the Gospel. This was to begin in the city of Jerusalem. They were given these instructions by the Lord: “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth,” Acts 1:8. They were to carry the gospel to all nations: Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. Matt. 28:19-20.

“LET THE BIBLE SPEAK”
We have written several articles about the changes that God has authorized in His word. Under the law of Moses, animal sacrifices were a constant ritual at the Temple, as the priest ministered there. It is staggering to think of the thousands of lambs that were sacrificed upon the Altar. All these lambs pointed forward to the true lamb of God. John the Baptist pointed his disciples to Jesus with these words,“Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29. The Apostle Peter wrote in his first epistle, “Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot,” 1 Pet 1:18-19. In the epistle to the Hebrews we read that those sacrifices in the Old Testament were not sufficient to bring complete forgiveness of the people’s sins: “But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: ‘SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU DID NOT DESIRE, BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME.’ “Heb. 10:3-4. Jesus came to this world and lived in a body and eventually died on a Roman cross to bring a lasting atonement for our sins. With His sacrifice at the cross it became possible to have our sins completely forgiven. We have these significant words of assurance regarding the New Covenant: “He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,” Heb. 10:9-12. The atonement for sins is complete under the priesthood of Jesus Christ. We further read, "’THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE.’ Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin,” Heb. 10:17-18. There is no need for us to slay animals to offer on the altar, because Jesus is the perfect sacrifice. We read these stirring words also recorded in the Hebrew Epistle: “But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption,” Heb. 9:11-12. We must avail ourselves of the cleansing power of His blood by being baptized into His death, Rom. 6:3-4.

“LET THE BIBLE SPEAK”
We have been writing in previous articles about changes which God has authorized for His people. We find this written to Christians in the New Testament: “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy,” 1 Pet. 2:9-10. These Gentile Christians had not previously been the people of God. The Apostle Paul wrote that they were aliens, and strangers from the covenant of promise. “Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands— that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world,” Eph. 2:11-12. That covenant stood as line of separation between the Jews and the Gentiles. The old covenant was given exclusively to the nation of Israel: Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel." So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments,” Ex. 34:27-28. The Apostle Paul said that wall of separation had been torn down. He wrote this to Gentile Christians: “For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace,” Eph. 2:14-15. The Ten Commandment covenant was given to the Israelites, but the gospel is for all nations. Jesus gave the following commission to His Apostles: “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age,’ Amen.” Matt. 28:18-20. It is a mistake to assume that we have no law today. It is called the law of faith, Rom. 3:27-28. It is also called the perfect law of liberty, and we are required to continue in it: “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does,” James 1:25.

“LET THE BIBLE SPEAK”
In previous articles we have written about some changes that God has authorized in His word. We will continue that discussion in this article. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Evangelist, Timothy, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth,” 2 Tim. 2:15. God’s word is true from start to finish, but there are things in the Old Testament that do not apply directly to the Christian today, because there has been a change in the covenants. It is fundamentally necessary to recognize the law of the new covenant and how it differs from the previous covenant. The Old Testament Prophet, Jeremiah spoke of this change in his prophecy: "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, …. Jer. 31:31-32. This covenant would be a better covenant, “But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second,” Heb. 8:6-6. The old covenant was given to the nation of Israel: “Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Write these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.’ So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments,” EX. 34:27-28. Circumcision of the flesh was essential for all males under the old covenant. This requirement is not essential to the new covenant. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Galatians, “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation,” Gal. 6:15. Today the Christian’s circumcision is that of the heart brought about by being baptized into Christ: “In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead,” Col. 2:11-12. By submitting to fleshly circumcision, it would obligate one to the law of Moses which ended at the cross. Paul wrote to the Galatians; “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bo***ge. Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. And I testify again every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law.” Gal. 5:1-3.
