If you're a Christian today, it is not because you were smarter, better, or more spiritually aware than someone else. We were dead in our sins, unable to rescue ourselves, and completely dependent on the mercy of God, who saved us.

When we think that we can somehow appease God by our good works we are deceived by the same self-justification that satan proposed to Adam and Eve in the garden. It is blatant pride. We have nothing to offer the King of glory except our humble submission, obedience, and praise!

This first glimpse of ascension that we see in scripture is not a picture of Divine, glorious ascension but rather one of self-righteousness and pride. What Christ has accomplished in His ascension is not an act of pride but of victory. The High King of Heaven has won!

The ascension of Jesus is an important detail in the Christian story. The risen Christ ascended in victory, sat down at the right hand of the Father, and now reigns with all authority while interceding for His people. Without the ascension, we miss the beauty of our Savior not only dying and rising, but reigning.
