A note from our campus minister, Mary Kate:
One of the coolest things about United Methodism is something we call “the connection,” and what that refers to is that United Methodists are connected in our mission and purpose in the world. When we’re doing it correctly, we’re helping each other live into our various vocations by supporting one another by our prayers, time, relationships, and resources. Nothing that happens at APSU Wesley occurs without the connection we share with our partner churches in and around Clarksville, Tennessee.
When I got to campus in the fall of ‘23, I quickly became aware that food scarcity is something many of our students struggle with on campus. So, along with being a means to getting them to come talk to a random old lady in their University Center, I realized when they came up to the table that snacks were so much more than snacks for some.
Since then, at our Wesley Wednesdays event that happens each week, we hand out free snacks to students for a couple of hours in the UC. Often students will look at us confused when we tell them that they don’t have to do anything in order to get the snacks; rather, they just have to take them and know that they’re loved. Never fails, they walk away with a smile on their face.
We are able to continue this specific ministry because of the ways our partner churches come alongside us to provide snacks that we can then hand out to students on campus. Today, I want to give a huge shout out to our partner church, Forest Street United Methodist Church, for this beyond-generous outpouring of snacks that I know will not only fill bellies, but also fill hearts of students who are hungry in more ways than one.
Giving thanks for Forest Street UMC,
Giving thanks for the connection,
& giving thanks for APSU Wesley foundation.
