Tonight at our Assembly Meeting, the Knights of Columbus presented a special award to members who served overseas in the fight against terrorism.
Below is the speech that was read during the presentation. We also recognize and honor the many other members who served overseas but were unable to attend tonight’s meeting.
Thank you all for your service and sacrifice!
"The history of the United States is a story of courage, sacrifice, and service. From the Revolutionary War to the wars of today, Americans have answered the call to defend the freedoms we hold dear.
The Knights of Columbus has been part of that story for more than a century. During times of war, Knights have supported our military members, cared for wounded veterans, and stood beside families whose loved ones were serving far from home.
After the attacks of September 11, 2001, another generation of American soldiers went overseas to confront terrorism and protect our nation. Many served in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other parts of the world, facing danger far from their families and communities.
As Knights of Columbus members, we remember that freedom comes with a cost. Tonight, we would like to recognize those among us who have served in the War on Terrorism. If you have served in the War on Terrorism, we ask that you please come forward as your name is read to receive a special certificate of our appreciation. This certificate is a small expression of our gratitude for your service, your sacrifice, and your commitment to defending our nation and the freedoms we hold dear."
