In 1 Corinthians 10:14–22, Paul calls us to flee idolatry and come to Christ with undivided devotion.

Seeing Christ in All Scripture: Jesus the Prophet, Priest, and King

How does the Bible all fit together?

The Old Testament is filled with prophets, priests, and kings—but every one of them ultimately fell short. Their stories point beyond themselves to Someone greater.

Jesus Christ.

He is the final Prophet who perfectly reveals God.
He is the perfect Priest who gave Himself for our sins.
He is the eternal King whose kingdom will never end.

When we see Christ as Prophet, Priest, and King, we begin to see the Bible differently. The stories, sacrifices, promises, and kingdoms of the Old Testament are not disconnected pieces. They are part of one story that leads us to Christ.

Jesus said that the Scriptures speak of Him.

He is the Prophet we must hear, the Priest we can trust, and the King we must follow.

How does this passage function?

We look at the distinction between Law and Gospel—the Law revealing what God requires and exposing our sin, while the Gospel reveals what God has provided for us in Jesus Christ.

The Law shows us our need.
The Gospel shows us our Savior.
The Law brings us to the end of ourselves.
The Gospel brings us to the sufficiency of Christ.

Understanding this distinction helps us avoid moralism, legalism, and antinomianism—and teaches us to read Scripture through the lens of God's grace.
