Lockstep - def. A way of marching with each person as close as possible to the One in front.

Galatians 5:16 "So I say, Walk by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh."

Walking in the Spirit means imitating Christ. If my heart is to be more like Him I must do the things I see Him doing. I must be willing to crucify and put to death my own passions and desires. Putting Christ and others before myself.

Galatians 5:22 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control."

There is no Law against these things, and I believe those who belong to Christ can choose to exhibit, and bear this fruit AT WILL, indiscriminately, and without reserve! "IF" we are willing to live and be in lockstep with the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep IN STEP with the Spirit.

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Coy

Daily Devotion,
"No Reputation"
Philippians 2:7 But Christ made himself of no reputation taking the form of a bond servant, coming in the likeness of man.
Have you ever felt invisible? Like sometimes you can't even be seen by anyone? Like others around you do not pay attention to you? That they would not miss you if you were gone?
There will be seasons or moments in our lives when we feel like "just another face in the crowd." We know (or should know) that deep down we have so much more to offer. If only we could make someone see!
We aren't alone though, Christ has suffered with us in this. "Having been tested like us in all ways." Hebrews 4:15. Isaiah 53:2 says, "He didn't look like anything or anyone of consequence, He had no beauty to attract our attention." Sound familiar? It reminds me of me. And it should! That was the point! To be like US, so the He could save US. God sees worth in us through the blood of Jesus.
Sometimes the best way to be seen, is to see the best in someone else.Philippians 2 says not to think more highly of yourself, but to put others interest ahead of your own.
Maybe like Christ having no reputation isn't bad enough. Maybe you have a bad reputation and people see and have judged you wrongly. Matthew 11:19 say they called him a glutton, a drunk, and a friend of sinners. Thankfully that last part is true. He has always been a friend to me, and other sinners like me.
By finding value in others we will find value in ourselves, "Humble yourselves under God's mighty hand that He may lift you up in due time, just as He raised Christ also! Philippians 2:9
Lord give us eyes to see the least of these and ourselves in your eyes!

Daily Devotion
Proverbs 17:3 The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the Lord tests hearts.
My wife, Brandi and I have been watching a TV show called Forged in Fire. It shows blacksmiths competing in a tournament making knives, swords and other weapons that go through difficult tests to see what type of steel they are made of.
A crucible is a ceramic or insulated container that material is poured into and then it is heated to its melting point. This serves two purposes. It tells the refiner the quality and make up of the material being tested and it purifies by causing impurities to come to the top. Called "dross' the impurities can then be skimmed off leaving the remainder to be in a better state than when it began.
The scriptures many times speak of our lives as going through the refiners fire. Trials and testing not only reveal to us and others what we are made of, but they perfect and purify us for His glory and purposes in us. 1 Peter 1:6-7 says "You should greatly rejoice in what is waiting for you, even if now for a little while you have to suffer various trials. Suffering tests your faith which is more valuable than gold (remember that gold, although it is perishable, is tested by fire) so that if it is found genuine, you can receive praise, honor, and glory when Jesus Christ, is revealed at last."
In Psalm 139:23 David asks God to search his heart.
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 Point out anything in me that offends you,
and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
I believe and know that this is more for David's benefit than it was God's. When we are tested by the fires of life, the sinful impurities that are inside of us will come to the top. They will be made known, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, God is removing the dross and making us more like him through the refining process. It isn't pleasant but the heat of the trial is what breaks loose the things in us that need removed.
We have a promise that the testing will not last forever and that God will be with us through the fire. Isaiah 43:22 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.
God grant us grace to endure testing and fire, create in your people a pure heart. worth more than refined gold, to the praise of your glory. - Amen!

Pastor Coy

Daily Devotion
"Not From Around Here"
Hebrews 13:14 For this world is not our permanent home, we are looking forward to a home yet to come.
When Brandi and I started dating in high school we had a friend who was a foreign exchange student from Brazil. It was interesting to learn about the differences in life and culture in Brazil compared to America. Naturally many things that we do seemed odd to her and likewise somethings she did seemed odd to us.
I remember one specific incident. She loved mayonnaise. She put it on everything. While we were at the lunch table she opened a mayo packet and started squeezing onto her pizza. Everyone just stopped and looked at her like she had two heads. It was a real "you're not from around here" moment.
For Christians we should have MANY "you're not from around here" moments. We will have times when the things we do or don't do set us apart from the rest of the world, our family, and even our friends. Our lives should reflect that we are not of this world. Our citizenship is in heaven. Romans 12:2 says, "Do not copy the behaviors or customs of this world , but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.
Lets go outside the camp, (Hebrews 13:13) and be set apart in service to our Lord! Bearing the reproach that he bore proudly, not being ashamed to be different for the sake of the Gospel and the kingdom of God! - Amen

Pastor Coy

Daily Devotion
"Wake Up Call"
Ephesians 5:14 Wake up O' sleeper, rise from the dead and Christ will shine on you!
I am a heavy sleeper. Once I slept through an "earthquake". Actually it wasn't much more than a tremor but it caused the house to shake and the widows to rattle. Brandi, my wife tried to wake me up but I told her it was probably just the washing machine, (which made no sense because it wasn't even running) and I rolled over and went back to sleep.
Sadly it can be the same way when God is trying to get our attention or wake us up spiritually. We ignore the shaking or hit the snooze button and miss the opportunity or calling of God in our lives.
In 1 Samuel 3 we read where God is calling a young Samuel out of sleep. Samuel heard his name being called three different times and thought each time it was Eli the priest of God calling him. The third time he came to see what Eli wanted, Eli realized it was God that was calling Samuel and instructed Samuel to answer Him. The next time Samuel heard the Lord call him, he answered, "I am listening LORD!"
Jesus help us today to answer you when you wake us and rise into the light of your calling. Not hitting the "snooze" or falling back to sleep. Give us power to seize the day before the alarm sounds and time runs out! Amen!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Coy
