St. Louis Church Concert Series

St. Louis Church Concert Series Bringing quality musical programming to the Clarksville and Howard County communities, and beyond, with a mission to Enliven, Educate, and Entertain. The St.

Louis Church Concert Series is an outgrowth of the vibrant music ministry at St. Louis Church, led by Artistic Director Colleen Daly Eberhardt. We seek to present first-rate musical experiences for audiences within and beyond the St. Louis congregation. Equally important, we aim to offer a range of performance and learning opportunities for parish musicians and to showcase their talents as they br

ing freshness to the works they are performing, while working alongside professional musicians. Season after season, the concert series renews its pledge to ENLIVEN, EDUCATE, and ENTERTAIN, the three-pronged commitment for the concert series at large and guiding principles for each program. Visit https://www.stlconcertseries.org/ for more information about our history and program offerings and to support our work. Plan to join us soon.

Perhaps the most personal contribution of the Concert Series on our community is its ability to support family ties. For many friends of the Series, what began as a romance of love and music blossomed into a family including the next generation of artists!

During Paul Carroll’s tenure, two couples became engaged then married: our tenor soloist and principal oboeist Grace and Andrew Shryock, and concertmaster Melissa Hullman and principal cellist, Doug Jameson. In addition, Anne Kovarik, our principal trumpet, married our principal trombonist Shawn McNamara.

Tim McKay joined as principal percussionist during the latter part of Paul’s tenure, and his wife Amanda later joined the orchestra as violist. Now a new generation of McKays, Isabelle in the choir, and Zack in the children’s choir have joined the team.

Talented family of our Executive Director Jay Dausch, Mary Dausch was the Series’ original violist, then principal violist and strings contractor. Joe Dausch began singing with us in 2015, and his daughters during Terry Eberhardt’s time.

Betsy Bates, who was a soprano soloist in the Mozart Exsultate in 2015, and later in an excerpt from Hansel and Gretel in 2017, is the daughter of Kathy Spies, a long time alto in the chorus. Betsy was also a guest chorister with us during several years under Director Heather Adelsberger’s baton.

Larissa Sanders was our pianist, first during the latter part of Paul’s tenure and then throughout Heather’s tenure and the initial part of Terry’s. Her husband Eddie joined our orchestra in Paul’s time, and became the winds contractor, principal bassoon, and soloist with the Atlantic Reed Quintet. Their daughter Catherine, now a freshman at Princeton, sang in our children’s chorus for many years.

Share your love story with us on Sunday at our 20th Anniversary Celebration!

The opening concert of the 2020-21 season, Bells Are Ringing, celebrated the church’s new bell tower while expressing gratitude to supporters of the St. Louis Bell Tower campaign. It also marked another milestone moment, as Colleen Daly Eberhardt appeared in her first concert as the Concert Series artistic director, sharing the stage with composer and pianist Gabriel Ruiz-Bernal.

The program was organized around life stages and occasions marked by the ringing of bells, moving from solemn ceremonies to joyous celebrations. It was an evening shaped by new beginnings—a bell tower, debut of Colleen as artistic director, and the opening of a new season—with bells ringing out in celebration.

And so, whether shaped by the sounds of the Rodgers organ, newly acquired pianos, or bells, the Concert Series has shown that sometimes the instruments themselves are the real stars of the show. In the years ahead, perhaps we’ll see more unexpected musical stars moving from supporting roles into the spotlight, adding new chapters and sounds to our rich history, and to a story still unfolding. Celebrate that story with us at our 20th Anniversary Celebration!

Two separately donated pianos—a Yamaha model G3 and Kawai KG2—took center stage during the spring 2019 concert Art for the Young at Heart, an interdisciplinary celebration of music, dance, and art. Pianists Elizabeth Hill, Heather Adelsberger, and Molly Orlando brought the instruments to life in a wide-ranging repertoire that included excerpts from Modest Mussorsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Béla Bartók’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion and Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals. That afternoon, it was truly a beautiful day in the Clarksville neighborhood, as music, dancing, art, and the joyful sounds of two donated pianos brought smiles to concertgoers of all ages.

Heather joins us on the keys again this Sunday at our 20th Anniversary Celebration! See you there!

Typically, it’s the performers who take center stage, but in the 20-year history of the Concert Series, there have been occasions when instruments—and even the church’s bell tower—have taken the spotlight. Here’s a look at a few memorable moments, starting in 2006:

In the beginning, Pastor Monsignor Luca and parishioner Jay Dausch sought ways to showcase both the new Rodgers Organ and the new Church’s remarkable acoustics beyond liturgical services and with a wider audience. The solution? Present a concert!

On May 7, 2006, the Series’ inaugural concert, featuring organists Henry Lowe and Charles Higgs, officially dedicated the instrument and set the stage for what would become a continuing tradition of seasonal performances.

Hear this instrument in all its glory at our 20th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday!

Next up, we have music director, keyboard artist, and conductor extraordinaire Heather Adelsberger. Among her many contributions to the series, she led us through our 10th anniversary celebration (featured). On May 17th, she’ll be conducting our set of Aaron Copeland classics and joining Concert Series favorite for a Gershwin 4-hander. You won’t want to miss our 20th Anniversary Celebration!
