Happy Saturday, church family! ❤️ We hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

Pastor Sam will be away tomorrow, but we are so blessed to have Brother Gary bringing the message during our morning service. Many of us know and love Brother Gary, and we’re looking forward to hearing what the Lord has laid on his heart! 🤗

Brother Jackson will be bringing our evening message, and after the wonderful job he did last time, we’re excited to hear him again!

No matter who is behind the pulpit, there is something special about gathering with God’s people in God’s house. ❤️ If you don’t have a church home—or it’s simply been a while—we would love to have you!

PLEASE SHARE THIS!!!

💗 September is GIRLS’ MONTH for our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes! 💗

Last year, our church was able to put together 118 shoeboxes, and this year we would love to see that number grow! But reaching more children is going to take all of us working together. ❤️

You don’t have to fill an entire shoebox yourself. Pick up a doll, a small toy, a toothbrush, a pair of flip-flops, a coloring book, hair accessories—every single item helps.

These may seem like simple little gifts to us, but each shoebox becomes an opportunity to place something special into the hands of a child and, most importantly, to share the love and hope of Jesus Christ. 🎁✝️

Throughout September, we’re collecting items for GIRLS ages 2–14. The picture below has lots of ideas to help you while you’re shopping.

Let’s see what Memorial Baptist can do when we ALL pitch in! 💕
Maybe this is the year we go well beyond 118 boxes! 🙌

Every item matters. Every box matters. Every child matters.

Tonight’s message really gave us something to think about. ❤️

Not everything that weighs us down is necessarily a sin. Sometimes it’s work, our schedules, hobbies, our phones, responsibilities, worries, or simply just being too busy.
And it’s okay to list those things.
Everyday responsibilities aren’t necessarily wrong, but they can still become a weight when they take up so much of our time and attention that we have less time for God.

So here’s a question for all of us:

What is something in your life that is weighing you down or distracts you from giving more of your time and attention to God?

If you’re a sports fan like myself, I know you understood today’s message! 🏁

And if you enjoy an incredible story about an athlete who refused to quit, keep reading—Pastor Sam shared one that will stay with you.

Pastor Sam set up a START and FINISH line this morning to help us understand something important. How many of us know someone who believes once they’re saved and baptized, they’re good? I know I do! 🙋‍♀️

Salvation isn’t the finish line. It’s the starting line.

In 1Corinthians 9:24–27, Paul compares our Christian walk to athletes running a race. The athletes of Paul’s day trained with tremendous discipline for a prize that wouldn’t last. In the ancient Olympics, the victor received a kotinos—a wreath of wild olive leaves. Paul reminds us that Christians are running for an imperishable prize. We’re running for something eternal!

Just as athletes continually train and discipline themselves, we need to exercise our faith through God’s Word, worship, serving, forgiving, and spending as much time as we can together in God’s house. That’s where we train and grow stronger.

Life will get in the way. We’ll stumble. We may even get completely off course sometimes. But we get back up and keep running!

Pastor Sam shared the incredible story of Olympic marathon runner John Stephen Akhwari. During the 1968 Olympics, Akhwari fell around the 19-kilometer mark, dislocating his knee and badly injuring his shoulder. He still had about 23 kilometers—more than 14 MILES—left to go! Yet, injured and in tremendous pain, he got back up and continued toward that finish line.

When asked why he didn’t quit, his answer said it all:

“My country did not send me 5,000 miles to start the race; they sent me 5,000 miles to finish the race.”

That’s him in one of the pictures—injured, hurting, and still running.

If he could have that much determination to finish a race for his country, how much more determination should we have to run our race for Jesus?

Don’t just start the race. Keep training. Keep growing. Keep running. And finish it well. 🏁❤️

If you’re new to our church or didn’t know, we have Wednesday night Bible study at 6:00 PM, and right now we’re making our way through the book of Revelation. 📖 There is so much to learn, and everyone is welcome to come study and grow with us!

What a powerful message we heard today! ❤️ I loved it!!

I love having visual aids to help me learn. Did you love it too??

Our Sunday School lesson from 1 Corinthians reminded us that just as a body has many different parts, the church does too. We don’t all have the same gifts or the same job, but every person has a part to play. When we come together and serve as one body, the world should be able to see Jesus through us.

Pastor Sam continued in 1 Corinthians chapter 3 with a message titled “You’re Acting Like Babies.”
Paul had some strong words for the church at Corinth. Their jealousy, strife, and divisions were evidence that they still had some growing up to do spiritually.

And that’s something the church still needs to hear today.

We can’t allow disagreements, hurt feelings, old grudges, personalities, or even changes in leadership to divide the church. Our loyalty isn’t supposed to be to a particular person. Our foundation is Jesus Christ.

I loved the illustration Pastor Sam used with the boxes. He began with JESUS as the foundation and showed us what we can choose to build upon Him.

We can build with things that won’t last — self, wealth, and traditions — like wood, hay, and straw that will eventually burn away.

Or we can build with things of eternal value — love, truth, and ministry — represented by gold, silver, and precious stones. ❤️

One day our work will be tested. The question is: What are we building that will remain?

If we want our church to be strong for the next generation and the generations after them, we have to stop allowing yesterday’s disagreements to keep us from doing today’s ministry.

Let’s grow up in our faith. Let’s forgive. Let’s work together. Let’s love one another. Let’s stand on the truth of God’s Word. And above all, let’s make sure everything we build has Jesus Christ as its foundation. 🙏❤️

🎁 Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes: Our collection items for August are notebook paper, reading books, and coloring books. You can also check the Christmas tree in the entrance for other small items we’re collecting.

🌸 Ladies: This is a reminder about the special collection mentioned on the paper handed out last Sunday morning. Donations may be dropped off in Mrs. Bernice’s classroom. If you’re unsure what this refers to, please reach out to one of the ladies for more information.

We’re so thankful for a church family with such a heart for giving and serving others. ❤️ Come worship with us today!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful and restful weekend! ❤️

In a world that can feel so busy and heavy, what a blessing it is to have Sunday—a day to slow down, step away from the noise, and turn our hearts back to God.

Take time to rest, worship, and remember just how great our God is. ❤️

I pray you’ll spend part of your Sunday worshiping with us. There’s no better way to begin a new week than together in God’s house.

It’s Friday! ❤️ Whatever this week brought—good days, hard days, answered prayers, or things you’re still praying about—you made it to the weekend.

Before we rush into everything we have planned, take a moment tonight and thank God for carrying us through another week. Sometimes His blessings are in the big things, and sometimes they’re simply in the strength He gave us to keep going.

Enjoy your weekend, love your people, get some rest, and don’t forget to thank the One who gave us another day. ❤️
