This year marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The community is invited to participate in a Service of Remembrance on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. The service will provide an opportunity for us to come together and reflect on the trauma of that day and what it means for our lives in the present day. Please join Rev. Annette Goard, Pastor, and Carol Henderson, Minister of Music, who will lead this service of poetry, scripture, and prayer, supported by special music of the choir, organ, and piano. A light reception in the Fellowship Hall will follow the service.

Sunday temperatures are projected to be much cooler, so please join us for Worship in the Park on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 10:00 am at the Amphitheater at Occoneechee Park. Our traditional Labor Day Worship is always special with such an inspirational view of the water, united in hearing the Word, singing, and praying together. All are welcome to join us for a bountiful potluck brunch picnic afterward. Clarksville Presbyterian Church will be hosting the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Clarksville Community Center, 103 Woodland Drive, Clarksville VA.

The Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage this summer. Lakefest Saturday promises to be a HOT day! Please stop by Clarksville Presbyterian Church for a Cup of Cold Water, clean restrooms, and a place to cool down (please, no food). Our Fellowship Hall will be open at 502 Virginia Avenue and we'll also have a tent on the street.

We never quite know what to expect when our Pastor, Annette Eckerd Goard, brings us the Word of God in her Sunday message. Today's Old Testament reading was from Genesis 18:1-15 and 21:1-7. We heard God's promise to Sarah and Abraham: "Now Sarah said, 'God has brought laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me.' And she said, “Who would ever have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.” The Christmas penguin and our pastor did a little dance in the pulpit, and we, too, laughed! Thank you, Annette, for making us think each week in your sermons -- and to understand that laughter, too, can have a role in worship!

We love our Veterans! We were pleased to nominate two of our Lake Country Area Agency on Aging members, both former WACs, to be honored with Quilts of Valor at the Community Memorial Day Service yesterday. Mary Williams and Annie Jenkins both served in the Women's Army Corps and are strong, courageous women whose lives have continued to be dedicated to service to their families, community, and country. Two of our CPC members were also on the stage with Al Heinze serving as emcee and Bev Chestnutt leading the National Anthem and "I'll Fly Away"! The festivities continued after the program with an inside picnic at the church.
