Dear Brothers & Sisters,
Everyone wants to find happiness. A major barrier to happiness is the guilt and shame we carry with us. Thankfully, there is One who will remove our guilt and cover our shame. Our Lord Jesus took care of this on the cross and through the Resurrection. We can discover the happiness found there when we confess our sins. This is why every Lord's Day we confess our sin and hear the Good News of forgiveness ("The Assurance of Pardon"). It is here that we can find happiness. Join us this Lord's Day to hear the Good News of your forgiveness, and, as a result, "Be glad in the Lord and rejoice" (Psalm 32:11).

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

We are a thirsty people. To the thirsty, Isaih gives this invitation, "Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters" (Isaiah 55:1). And our Savior, "Whoever drinks of the water I give will never be thirsty again" (John 4:14). For those who are thirsty, the Lord has given the Lord's Day service, that he might encounter us and fill us with his living waters.

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
Two years ago, the pandemic took a difficult turn as cancellations spread across our region and nation. This weekend comes as a spring of hope with the ending of the infamous mask mandate. Of course, troubles and trials have not left us, but the lifting of the mandate gives one less thing about which to worry. Even more significant, there is one who never left us, who never hid his face -- the Lord Jesus Christ. While our faces may have been hidden, our hearts continued to cry "Your face, Lord, do we seek" (Psalm 27:8). In response the Lord hid not his face, remembering us always. This is part of the Good News that we hear every Lord's Day, as we gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.

Some of you know that there is a large Ukrainian population in Spokane with several vibrant churches. Several Spokane area Presbyterian pastors participated in a prayer service for Ukraine and the ongoing crisis. Dear Brothers & Sisters,
With the Lenten journey begun we make our annual pilgrimage to the cross of Christ. We need this annual reminder because our attention is pulled in every direction. But the cross shapes our view of the world and the suffering we encounter in it. The cross also shapes our view of God himself, for it gives us insight into the heart of God. I hope you will join us for worship this Lord's Day as God encounters us with his heart for us and for the world.

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
What happens after you die? This is one of the most important questions humanity asks, and it is one that the Christian faith answers. Generally speaking, people focus on the geography of the afterlife -- heaven, hell, perhaps purgatory. But the Bible, especially the Apostle Paul, is more concerned about the Resurrection of the Body. This means that our salvation -- our Resurrection life -- is not something that happens after we die, but now -- today! So it is that every Lord's Day we gather to participate in our eternal destiny. I hope you will join us.

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

In my sermon Sunday, I mentioned the exhaustion some pastors face in trying to outdo themselves from one Sunday to the next -- as if every Sunday had to compete with the Super Bowl. Well, this Sunday is the Super Bowl, but there is no competition with Jesus Christ risen from the dead. Every Lord's Day is a mini-Resurrection Day -- an opportunity to proclaim the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and discover the difference it makes in our lives. There is no better news, no better victory, that Christ risen from the dead. This coming Lord's Day is no different!
