13 For we are not writing to you anything other than what you read and understand and I hope you will fully understand— 14 just as you did partially understand us—that on the day of our Lord Jesus you will boast of us as we will boast of you. 2 Co 1:13–14

I was listening to a pastor teaching through this passage. He used an illustration that sparked something in me that I think is important for us as believers to understand. “Sometimes when we correct our children they don’t get it or understand where we are coming from, what we are saying, and why it is important. Our response is ‘One day when you have your own kids you will understand!’” What that sparked in me is this thought- “One day when you have your own disciples you will understand”! In other words, when we are trying to do what Jesus said for us to do, “make disciples” we will only then fully understand all that we, ourselves have in Christ. This verse seems to support this idea,

and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ. Phm 6

Here is the flip side of that principle. If we are not making disciples then possibly we don’t know the fulness of what we have in Christ. If we are not doing evangelism and discipleship maybe we are stunting our own growth. Maybe if we are not participating in what God is doing, gathering a people for Himself, then we are failing to experience the nearness of Christ and His promise to be with us!

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Mt 28:18–20

It is an awesome thing that God looks down on all the peoples of the world and names a flock for himself, and then sends missionaries in the name of christ, and then leads his chosen ones to the sound of the gospel, and then saves them. They could be saved no other way. Missions is essential.
“The sheep hear his voice and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out… the sheep follow him for they know his voice” John 10:3-4

The Father gave His only begotten Son, and He gave Him to die...
Meditate on that this Advent. It was a very costly love. A very powerful love. A very rugged, painful love. The meaning of Christmas is the celebration of this love. 'God so loved...' And wonder if wonders, God gives this costly love to an undeserving world of sinners, like us."

The Old Testament ends with the longing for God to keep all of His promises to deliver and be with His people and to bless all the families of the earth.

"Christ came to prove that God tells the truth, that God keeps His promises. Christmas means that God can be trusted...God's truthfulness is the constant in a universe of flux. God's truthfulness is the unwavering absolute. If we forsake God's truthfulness, the anchor is up, the rudder is loose, the keel is broken, and the ship of life (political life, social life, educational life, scientific life, family life) is simply at the mercy of the wind of human wishes." So here is the question are you trusting in God and His promises (this is why Christ came), or are you simply drifting through life aimless and empty?

Take a fresh look at Jesus and in repentance and faith come to Him!

We have no control over someone's decision to surrender to Jesus as Lord and Savior. We have no control ultimately on how God may be working in someone's life. We only have control over one thing that can have an impact on the lost world around us!

What is that one thing we have control over- how many people will hear the Good News of Jesus and salvation in His name.

So it stands to reason that if we care about impacting the world we live in then we should share the Gospel often and with many and we should equip and encourage others to do the same!!!
