Our Lenten reflections continue today with a Reflection for the Second Sunday of Lent by Timothy Kawash (Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston). We hope these reflections enrich your spiritual journey through this Lenten season.

The readings for the Second Sunday of Lent invite us to reflect on the glory of the Lord. During the Transfiguration, the glory of the Lord is unveiled to Peter, James, and John. Indeed, all of history has pointed to the glory of the Lord: Moses, representing the law, and Elijah, representing the prophets, both bear witness to Christ transfigured. The Lord reveals His glory that He desires to share with us, for we are made to be citizens of heaven!
The connection between the Son’s glory and His Holy Cross cannot be ignored. Today’s Gospel passage comes between Christ’s first prediction of His Passion and His determination to go to Jerusalem. On the Cross, the greatest among us becomes the servant as Jesus completely gives Himself in servitude to us. If we want to share in the glory of Christ, we must share in His Cross and not be “enemies of the Cross” as Saint Paul warns the Philippians. The Transfiguration reminds us to have trust amid whatever cross the Lord asks us to carry, for we are saved not from the cross, but by it.
