From Pastor:

My surgeon called earlier with the pathology report. The margins on the piece they removed came back as clear, and he said the words I was waiting to hear, "We got it all!"

I still have a couple more procedures to do, and they are going to ablate the entire area to be sure, but the cancer is gone. I even had a test that looks for cancer DNA in the blood. It came back with a 0.0% result.

I will be doing scans and endoscopies on a regular basis for the next few years, but the worst is over, praise the Lord!

From Pastor:

It was a long procedure (Over 3 hours!)but I am home and the doctor says He believes he got it all! I will be following up with another endoscopy in about a month to do cryoablation (freezing the area to kill anything left over).

Of course, the pathology results will take some time to confirm if it is gone, but everything looks good at this point.

I am pretty sore and will be on a liquid diet for about a week or so, but this is FAR better than what they originally wanted to do!

I want to thank all those who have prayed for me in this journey. It isn't over yet, but I feel like the finish line is in sight!

Update from Pastor:

Well, the biopsy results came in and they show there are still cancer cells present, however, this is still good news. It shows that there is still healing going on. Originally, the cancer was all the way through the esophagus. Now it is only in the thin surface layers. I call that being " In full retreat!"

Also, according to the report, I am now considered stage 1, not stage 3. Further, I am considered in a sub group called T1A which means it is very shallow and very early stage 1.

The best news is that now, it can be handled without the massive surgery. They can now take out what is left using an endoscopic procedure without total removal of the esophagus!

I will still have scans and scopes for a few years to watch for reoccurring cancer, but it will be caught early and they can take it out in the same manner. Much better than what I was facing. God is good!

Update from Pastor Rule:

It's been awhile since I updated everyone, so let me get caught up. Since my last post, I had a CAT scan that came back saying they could not see the tumor! It was 6 inches long when it was first found and quite easy to see!

I took that report to my surgeon (who STILL wants to do this awful surgery!) and he sent me for another PET scan, which measures the cancer's activity. Originally, It had a score of 14.3 which is a pretty large amount.

The results came back, and it was now at 2.3, which is within the normal range for an esophagus!

When the results came in, the surgeon called me, asking me to have an endoscopy so they could actually look at the tumor via a camera.

I just left the hospital from having that procedure. Biopsy results will take a few days, but the good news is that the doctor said "I didn't see any masses, just a small, ulcerated spot where it probably had been!

I am amazed and humbled. God IS good, all the time!
