IF GOD IS EVERYWHERE, WHY DO WE STILL GO TO CHURCH?

Imagine someone saying:

“If God is everywhere, why should I go to church? I can pray to Him in my room. God can hear me anywhere.”

And honestly, there is truth in that.

God is indeed everywhere. He is not confined to a church building. So why does the Catholic Church still call us to gather for worship?

1. We Go to Church Because God Wants His People to Gather.
Christianity was never meant to be lived entirely alone. From the beginning, believers gathered together in prayer and worship. Scripture says, “Let us consider how to spur one another to love and good works” and not neglect meeting together (Hebrews 10:24-25). Going to church reminds us that faith is not only personal; we belong to the Body of Christ.

2. We Go to Mass Because Something Happens There That We Cannot Reproduce Alone.
A Catholic does not go to Mass simply because the building is God's house. We go because Christ is truly present in the Eucharistic celebration. At Mass, the Church gathers around the Word of God and the Eucharist. Jesus promised His presence where two or three gather in His name (Matthew 18:20), but the Eucharist is a unique sacramental presence of Christ.

3. We Go to Receive the Sacraments.
You can pray to God in your bedroom, and you should. But you cannot baptize yourself, absolve yourself in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, or consecrate the Eucharist by yourself. Christ entrusted the sacraments to His Church as ordinary means through which His grace is given to His people.

4. We Go Because Faith Needs Community.
There are moments when your faith is strong and moments when it is weak. Sometimes another person's prayer, encouragement, testimony or simple presence can strengthen you. The Church gives us a family of faith in which we worship, learn, serve, forgive and grow together.

5. We Go Because God Is Everywhere, But He Calls Us to Worship Him Together.
God's presence is not limited to the church building. You can pray while walking, working, travelling or sitting quietly at home. But Sunday Mass is not merely about finding God somewhere; it is about gathering as His people to worship Him, hear His Word and participate in the Eucharist. That is why the Church teaches that Sunday Mass is a serious obligation for Catholics, except when excused for a just reason.

In simple words, God is everywhere, but that does not mean we should worship Him only by ourselves.
We go to church because Christianity is communal, because Christ gave us the sacraments, and because the Eucharist is at the heart of Catholic worship.

You can pray to God anywhere.

But you were never meant to walk the Christian journey completely alone.

Now you know.

When our students become part of the IC family, they also become part of a Prayer House family! 💙

Today, we celebrated our newest students as they were officially welcomed and sorted into their Prayer Houses. 🙏✨

Each of our Prayer Houses represents a saint, giving our students the opportunity to grow in faith, build friendships, and create lasting memories together throughout the school year.

Throughout the year, students will participate in special activities with their Prayer House family, including:
🍽️ Eating lunch together
⛪ Attending Mass together
🏆 And everyone’s favorite—the Prayer House Games!

We can’t wait to watch our Prayer House families grow together and see all the fun and faith-filled moments the year brings!
