Hebrews 12:18-24 “Marching to Zion”
I. V.18-21 You Have Not Come to Mount Sinai.
II. V.22-23 You Have Come to Mount Zion.
III. V.24 You Have Come to Jesus the Mediator.

IV. Doctrine: Through Jesus Christ and His better covenant, believers are brought near to God with joyful access rather than fearful distance.

V. Application/Uses:
1) Draw near to God through Christ.
2) Worship God with reverence and joy.
3) Live as citizens of Heaven.
4) Treasure your Mediator. Philippians 3:8
5) Rejoice in your place among the redeemed.

Hebrews 12:15-17 “The Danger of A Careless Heart”
I. V.15a Watch Your Soul Carefully.
II. V.15b Don’t Let Bitterness Take Root.
III. V.16-17 Don’t Trade Eternal Blessings for Temporary Desires.
IV. Doctrine: Believers must diligently guard their hearts and one another lest sin harden the soul and lead to spiritual ruin.

V. Uses/Application
1) Guard Your Heart.
2) Kill Bitterness Before It Spreads.
3) Do Not Treat Spiritual Things Lightly.
4) Learn the Danger of Delayed Repentance.

Hebrews 12:12-14 “Enduring Together”
I. V.12-13a Strengthen What’s Weak.
II. V.13b Restore the Wounded.
III. V.14 Pursue Peace and Holiness.

IV. Doctrine: Those whom God disciplines must strengthen one another and diligently pursue holiness together.

V. Application/Uses:
1) Look to Christ and rise from spiritual weariness.
2) Walk closely with Christ so others are healed, not hindered.
3) Restore struggling believers with the gentleness of Christ.
4) Pursue the peace of Christ in your relationships.
5) Pursue the holiness of Christ in daily life.
6) Come to Christ because without holiness no one will see the Lord.

I. V.4-6 Recognize the Nature of Your Trials.

III. V.11 Trust the Purpose of Your Trials: Holiness.

IV. Doctrine: Divine discipline is the loving means by which God trains His children in holiness and brings them safely to the end.

V. Application/Uses:
1) Your trials are not punishment, but Fatherly.

3) Yield yourself to the Father’s work in your life.
4) The Father’s discipline reveals His love.

V. Doctrine: The Christian life is a race of endurance; run by casting off sin and depending on Christ.

VI. Applications:
1. Identify and cast off what is hindering your growth.
2. Kill your besetting sin.
3. Keep running when the race gets hard.
4. Depend on Christ, not yourself.

I. V.39 Faith Is Approved Even Without Receiving the
Promise.

II. V.40a God Has Provided Something Better in Christ.

III. V.40b All God’s People Are Perfected Together Through Christ.

IV. Doctrine: True faith looks to Christ, in whom God’s
promises are finally fulfilled.

V. Application/Uses:
1. Learn to measure faith by God’s verdict, not visible
Results.
2. Live like you truly have something better
in Christ.
3. Stop building your life around what will not last.
4. Examine what your heart is really resting in.
5. Keep trusting God, even when nothing
seems to be happening.
6. Come to Christ, the ‘better thing’ God has provided.

I. V.32 Summary of Many Examples.

II. V.33-35a Faith That Conquers (What Faith Received).

III. V.35b-38 Faith That Suffers (What Faith Endured).

IV. Doctrine: Saving faith endures all things, trusting God whether He delivers or not.
True Faith:
a. Trusts and obeys God regardless of the outcome.
b. Values reward above present relief.
c. Is approved by God even when Rejected by the
world.

V. Application/Uses:
1. Learn to expect both victory and suffering in the
Christian life.
2. Do not grow weary in quiet faithfulness.
3. Beware of subtle worldliness and comfort-seeking.
4. Faith is worth the cost.
5. Christ is the only One who perfectly walked in both
victory and suffering.

Because Jesus speaks we need not fear.

II. V.17b The Eternal Identity of the Risen Christ.
Because Jesus is eternal we can trust Him.

III. V.18a The Conquering Death of the Risen Christ.
Because Jesus died and rose we can be saved.

IV. V.18b The Everlasting Life of the Risen Christ.
Because Jesus lives forever we are secure.

V. V.18c The Absolute Authority of the Risen Christ.
Because Jesus holds the keys, eternity is in His hands.

Hebrews 11:29-31 “Faith That Saves You”
I. V.29 Faith Delivers from Judgment.
II. V.30 Faith Overcomes Through Obedience.
III. V.31 Faith Saves the Most Unlikely Sinner.
IV. Doctrine: Saving faith trusts God’s Word, obeys His commands and is the only difference between deliverance and destruction.

Saving Faith:
a. Trusts God’s Word.
b. Obeys God’s Commands.
c. Determines the Outcome.

V. Application/Uses:
1. Measure your faith by obedience from the heart, not just your profession.
2. Repent of a faith that never leads to obedience.
3. Act on God’s Word today, without delay.
4. Lean on God’s faithfulness, not your strength.
5. Keep following Christ faithfully, even when it
is hard.
6. Respond to God today, tomorrow is not
Promised.
