Our Summer Church Challenge is off to the Emerald Isle! ☘️

The Dodd Family took the challenge to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland, with Our Lady watching over them from high above the doors.

Fun fact: the foundation stone of St. Mary’s was laid in 1813, and the parish proudly marked two hundred years of faith in 2013. The church rests on the shores of Clew Bay at the foot of Croagh Patrick, Ireland’s Holy Mountain, where Saint Patrick is said to have fasted and prayed for forty days. Pilgrims still climb the mountain every year, many of them in their bare feet.

From Saint Patrick: “Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ within me.”

Blessings on your Irish pilgrimage, girls. May Our Lady and Saint Patrick keep you close and bring you safely home. 🙏

Our Summer Church Challenge is staying a little closer to home this time! ⛪

Frank Bomher took the challenge to the Sacred Heart of Mary outdoor Chapel in Dowagiac, Michigan, for Sunday Mass under the open sky.

Fun fact: this holy ground dates back to 1838, when Chief Leopold Pokagon, leader of the Potawatomi, built a log church here and deeded the land to the Church. He is buried on the site, and in the parish’s earliest years the Holy Cross Fathers from Notre Dame in Indiana ministered to the community. A beautiful Notre Dame connection for our own parish family!

The setting also brings to mind Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, the first Native American saint and patroness of ecology, whose final words are remembered as, “Jesus, Mary, I love you.”

Blessings on your journey, Frank. May Our Lady wrap you in her mantle and guide you safely home. 🙏

Our Summer Church Challenge is going international! ✈️

The Stewart family took the challenge across the pond, with beautiful stops in London and Paris.

WESTMINSTER ABBEY, London
They explored the soaring Gothic nave with audio guides in hand. Fun fact: every coronation of England’s kings and queens has taken place here since 1066, and the abbey still holds the shrine of Saint Edward the Confessor, the holy king who rebuilt it nearly a thousand years ago.

SAINTE-CHAPELLE, Paris
A true jewel box of stained glass on the Île de la Cité. Fun fact: King Louis IX, whom we know as Saint Louis, built it in the 1240s to house the Crown of Thorns and other relics of Christ’s Passion. Its fifteen towering windows hold more than 1,100 scenes from Scripture.

SACRÉ-CŒUR, Paris
Crowning the hill of Montmartre, this gleaming white basilica is devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Fun fact: prayer before the Blessed Sacrament has continued here day and night, without interruption, since 1885.

NOTRE-DAME, Paris
The beloved Gothic cathedral dedicated to Our Lady. Fun fact: after the 2019 fire, Notre-Dame reopened to the public in December 2024, and it is once again home to the Crown of Thorns, the same relic Saint Louis first brought to Paris.

From Saint Louis IX: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your strength. Without this there is no salvation.”

Blessings on every step of your pilgrimage, Stewart family. May the Lord guard your travels and carry you home in peace! 🙏

What a grace filled morning at Notre Dame. This past Sunday at 11:30, Father Josh White celebrated his first Mass right here in the parish that helped form him in the faith, with our community gathered to pray alongside him at the altar.

The day continued with a joyful celebratory lunch and the gift so many had been waiting for: a first blessing from Father Josh. There is something deeply moving about kneeling to receive the blessing of a newly ordained priest, knowing the hands raised over you have just been consecrated for the service of God and His Church.

To everyone who came out to celebrate, thank you. Your presence, your prayers, and your love made this day all the more beautiful for Father Josh and for our whole parish family.

Please continue to keep him in your prayers as he begins his priestly ministry.

Ad multos annos, Father Josh.

What a joyful day for our parish family. This past Saturday, lifelong parishioner Josh White was ordained at St. Raymond Cathedral, surrounded by the prayers and love of the community that watched him grow in faith.

Bishop Spies presided over the beautiful ordination Mass, with Father Mark there to share in this sacred moment and to support Josh as he answered God’s call. Watching one of our own kneel to receive the laying on of hands was a powerful reminder of the seeds planted right here in our pews.

Congratulations, Father Josh. Your yes to the Lord is a gift to the whole Church, and we are so proud to call you ours. Please keep him in your prayers as he begins this new chapter of priestly ministry.

What a holy night. 🙏

Nearly 1,000 of us gathered Thursday evening to celebrate Mass at Notre Dame, with Bishop Spies presiding, before processing together through our neighborhoods to St. Isaac Jogues in honor of Corpus Christi.

There is something profoundly moving about walking side by side, eyes fixed on our Eucharistic Lord, lifting our voices in song as one community. The Body of Christ, carried through our neighborhoods and held in our hearts.

To everyone who joined us, thank you for making this celebration of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ so beautiful. We are grateful to walk this road of faith together. 💛

“No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13 This Memorial Day, our parish family pauses to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to others. Their sacrifice, their courage, and their lives are not forgotten. As Catholics, we believe in the communion of saints and the resurrection of the dead. We entrust these souls to the mercy of God and pray that they rest in his eternal peace. To the families who grieve today, we pray that the Holy Spirit, the most excellent Comforter, draws near to you. He sits with you in the silence, and he knows you. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
