Thank you to everyone who joined us this past Sunday for Donuts and More after the 9:30 Mass! There is nothing quite like gathering over coffee, treats, and good conversation. The original was painted by Fra Angelico around 1440 on the wall of a small friar’s cell in Florence, created for quiet prayer and contemplation. 🙏

The scene glows with tender joy. Mary and Joseph kneel in adoration of the newborn Christ, angels sing overhead, and the promise of Scripture surrounds them, “For unto us a child is born.” 💛

How fitting that our students walk past this beauty each day. When we surround our children with sacred art, we help open their eyes to the wonder of God’s presence among us. 💫

💙🎉 Happy Birthday, Mother Mary!

We celebrated the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary the sweetest way we know how: blue slushies for all our Notre Dame School students! 🍧

The color was no accident. Blue is Our Lady’s color, so every cup was a little reminder of the Mother who watches over us. From our littlest learners to our eighth graders, the whole school got in on the fun.

A big thank you to Father Mark and our wonderful parish staff for serving up smiles (and seconds!) all afternoon long. Happy birthday, Mary, and thank you for always looking after your Notre Dame family. 🙏

Not so fast.

The Church has a name for the thing half the internet does every day, and most of us have never heard it: detraction. Exposing something true about someone that no one else had a right to know.

Here is the part that stings. Truth alone does not give you the right to tell it.

St. Augustine went further. Make a private fault public and “you are not a reprover but a betrayer.”

So what do you do when someone actually wrongs you? Jesus gives an answer nobody wants and everybody needs. Go to the person. Not around them. Not to your group chat. Toward them. 🙏

Calling all moms! 💛

We are so excited to introduce our new Mom’s Speaker Series, a warm space to be encouraged, build friendships, and grow in your vocation as a mother. Come as you are, coffee in hand, and leave feeling supported and refreshed.

Each month we will explore topics close to a mother’s heart, including:
🌿 Temperaments and love languages of your children
🌿 Running your home with intentionality
🌿 Raising emotionally regulated children
🌿 Parents as primary educators

Here are the details:
📍 O’Keefe Meeting Space at Notre Dame Parish
🗓️ Third Tuesday of the month, September through May
⏰ 9:30 to 11:00 AM
💵 One-time cost of $50 per participant, which includes childcare and refreshments

Financial aid is available for anyone in need, and childcare spots are limited, so be sure to sign up early. This series is meant to support moms, strengthen community bonds, and foster more joyful, Christ-centered homes.

Happy birthday, Mother Mary! 💐

Today the Church celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the birth of the girl who would one day say yes to God and become the mother of our Savior.

Fun fact: The Church celebrates only three birthdays all year long, those of Jesus, St. John the Baptist, and Mary. 🎂 Her feast falls exactly nine months after the Immaculate Conception on December 8, a beautiful reminder that her life was graced by God from the very beginning.

Her birth was the dawn that heralded the coming of Christ. 🌅

Today we celebrate the feast of St. Teresa of Calcutta! 🌹

Known to the world as Mother Teresa, she gave her whole life to serving the poorest of the poor, caring for the sick, the dying, and the forgotten on the streets of Calcutta.

Fun fact: When she received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, she asked that the fancy award banquet be canceled and the money given to the poor instead. 🕊️ Her heart was always with those most in need.

Her words still call to us: “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

“Whoever has two tunics should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise.” – Luke 3:11

Our shelves are nearly empty, and our neighbors are counting on us. It has been years since our Food Pantry shelves were this bare. Grocery bills are up, LINK allotments are down, and the need in our community is growing.

Who do we help? Each month, the Notre Dame Food Pantry provides groceries to about 50 local families across Clarendon Hills, Westmont, Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Darien, and Willowbrook. Many are single moms, seniors on limited incomes, the working poor, and neighbors facing sudden illness, injury, or job loss. We also make emergency deliveries to those in a short-term crisis.

This Food Pantry belongs to every member of our parish, and together we can fill it again. Please donate soon, since September deliveries are packed and ready to go out.

The cross you’re carrying right now, the one you’ve been carrying for weeks, months, maybe decades. Have you been carrying it alone?
You were not meant to.

Some of us are so good at renouncing ourselves. We give and give and pour ourselves out for our family, our kids, our vocation. And in the process we find ourselves turning to ashes. Why? Maybe because we’re not doing a good job of making our cross relational. We’re carrying it alone.

Your cross must become relational. When it does, it transforms, and it leads to life. Suffering is not simply good for suffering’s sake. But when we unite our trials, our sacrifices, our daily hardships to Jesus, they become places of new life and transformation. 🙏
