Forgiveness

When Peter asked Jesus how often we must forgive others Jesus replies that we should forgive not seven times but seventy times seven.
Mathew 18 21-22

Forgiving others is one way of walking in the foot steps of Christ. Following his example in word and deed.

Mercy and forgiveness have helped heal my soul and taught me the greatest lesson of my life.
I have learned that I must show humbleness and humility before all including the poor and those who suffer. We are all pilgrims on the earth together equal in Gods eyes.

As Christian's We are called to prayer, Saint Paul encouraged us to pray without ceasing to make our hearts known to God.
( 1st Thes 5 16:18).

Perhaps the prime example of prayer and the most important is when Jesus in his suffering taught us how to pray as he was in anguish on the Mount of Olives. The Lord asked to be spared from his crucifixion, but he humbled himself before his Father and asked that God's will be done.

Jesus's prayer was not self-centered, even though he prayed "let this cup pass from me". Jesus surrendered himself and accepted the will of his Father. This should remind us to pray with humility and open our hearts and spirit to God's perfect choice for our life.

The Apostle Paul said
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace that transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
(Phil 4 6:7)

Mother Mary, if I had been in your presence when you were on this earth, I would have run to you and hugged you for bringing our Lord into the world to fulfill his purpose.
Thank you for being the most perfect example of obedience to God. I look to you as my spiritual mother. I pray that when it is my time to enter our Father's house at the end of my earthly life, I will have lived my life with humble obedience.

My journey through this life has been filled with bad decisions and truths I wish I could change. But even in these times God never abandoned me. He always illuminated his presence within me, and like the prodigal son who was welcomed back by his father, so was I welcomed back by my Heavenly Father.

Lord grant me peace in the turbulent sea of my troubles. My enemies may destroy my body, but with you, I have the blessed assurance they can not touch my spirit which belongs to you.
Amen

No man can serve to masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
(Mt 6:24)

We can not take our money our real estate holdings or our possessions with us to the grave. The only thing that journeys with our spirit is our living faith in God shown by the love of our fellow man, and the effects of how we treated others in our earthly life.

The kindness and love and concern we have shown for others will follow us. Giving to those less fortunate with what we have to offer no matter how small, will follow us into eternity. Did we love one another, or live in selfishness and self-centeredness? Did we live in a spirit of humility and giving, or a lack of concern for our brothers and sisters?

The amount of possessions you own does not determine your worth or make you important to God. It is not bad to own things, but if those things become your master and you're a slave to them, you will become distracted from serving God. We either dedicate our lives to God or dedicate our lives to the things we own.

Saint Francis of Assisi had nothing, he gave up his father's riches to live a life of poverty. He did great things for God with just the clothes on his back. Our goal in life is not to own many worldly goods but to serve God. The catechism reminds us "The purpose of life is to know God and to love him and serve him.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you.

(Eph 4:32)

The brother or sister sitting on the street has lost everything. Friends and family house and possessions. A lack of empathy and compassion for our brothers and sisters on the streets is a great sin. They are a living soul created in the image and likeness of God. Too often, society judges a person's worth according to how much money they have earned or their job title.

Money and job titles will pass, we can not take them to the grave. If society could look past that which is temporary and see the soul which is eternal, compassion and kindness might grow in people's hearts.

Remember the sufferings that come with poverty will not last forever, only our relationship with the Lord endures forever. If we never escape poverty in this life, we know that when the body dies, the sufferings of poverty will not follow us into God's presence in his kingdom.
