As our parents embark on distance learning with their kids this week here are a few tips to help parents out:
1. Pray- pray for and with your child each morning. Give thanks to God for the ability of your child to continue their education during this time. Ask God to open their minds, and help them to focus, throughout their day! Prayer is powerful.
2. Plan- children tend to enjoy a schedule. They like knowing what they are doing and when things will happen. This will also help to keep them from asking the “when” question throughout the day. Plan out a schedule for each day, make it an activity for the whole family and get some input form the kids, they will love to be involved.
3. Space- designate a specific learning space if you can. A quiet area is best free from distractions. Have necessary materials easily accessible.
4. Familiarize yourself- familiarize yourself with the various platforms and resources the teachers are using. This will help you to teach and assist your child on how to navigate the websites and use the resources properly.
5. Breaks- remember to take breaks. Kids need breaks and let’s face it so do parents. Encourage a few small breaks per day, nothing crazy but a couple of minutes will help break up the day.
6. Be active- it’s so important that kids get outdoors and are active. We all need fresh air and sunlight. Make sure they are doing physical activities each day especially outdoors when they can. Our kids today are so focused on screens and technology let’s use this time to get them outdoors more.
Lastly enjoy this time with your child/children. God has freed us from a lot of worldly distractions right now. We can find the joy in strengthening our walk with Christ and connecting with our families. We miss seeing everyone and being with the kids please remember to check the app for the new resources for our hbc kids church curriculum while we are attending virtual services during this pandemic. Prayers to all for continued health, and safety and may God Bless our healthcare providers, first responders, and our essential employees and keep them all safe as they continue to report to work as normal. We can’t wait to see all those smiling faces back at church!
