Shiloh Methodist Church Claremont NC Looking for a church? Join us on Sundays for Sunday school and worship. All are welcome. Shiloh began as a brush arbor located near what is now the west entrance.

The first permanent building, a log structure, was erected in 1869. The original church building was 24×16, crowned with a steeply-pointed roof that was covered with homemade wooden shingles. Inside the one room structure were benches made of split logs. Wilson Crawford served as the first pastor of the log church. In 1914, Shiloh was rebuilt and two side wings were added for classrooms. The curre

nt sanctuary and education building were built in 1946, with dedication services held June 13, 1948. In 1985, construction began on a new fellowship hall, dedicated on October 4, 1987.

Florence Marie Olival Craig, age 101, of Claremont, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. Born May 27, 1925 in Hilo, Hawaii, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Olival and Rosa Perreira Olival.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Clyde R. Craig Sr. in 2018; brothers, Joseph, Fredrick, Walter and Wilfred Olival; three sisters, Agnes Barnes, Margret Carvens, and Hilda Calender; son-in-law, Walter Lewis; daughter-in-law, Lori Beth Sigmon Craig

She is survived by:

Daughters: Janice Lewis of Aspen, CO; twin daughters, Beth Ives and husband, Steve and Ann Navarro and husband, Joseph

Son: Richard H. Matsuda and wife, Cythia of Conover and Son: Clyde (Robbie) R. Craig, Jr. and wife, Tammy of Claremont

Grandsons: Randy Lewis and wife, Trudy, Brian Matsuda and wife, Stacy, Shaw Craig and wife, Becky, Brandon Craig and wife, EM, KC Craig and wife, Brittany, Caleb Humphries, Ethan Carrigan, Michael and Joseph Navarro

Step grandson: Barry Sigmon

Granddaughters: Kelly Wallace and husband Trent and Haleigh Carrigan

10 great grandchildren and I great great granddaughter

5 step great grandchildren

Step granddaughters: Samantha Harrington and husband, Wesley and Kelsey Lowman and husband, Cole

The funeral service will be held 4:00 P.M. Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Shiloh Methodist Church in Claremont with Pastor David Nolan officiating assisted by Dale Sherrill. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:00 to 3:45 P.M. at the church.

There’s nothing quite like seeing our youth praise the Lord with their whole hearts! 🙌🔥 These young people are showing us what worship looks like when you don’t hold anything back!

And if our youth are praising like THIS at camp this morning… all our churches better be praising like this this morning! 🙌😂🔥

Let’s worship with joy, lift our voices, and give God ALL the glory! What a blessing to see the next generation seeking Jesus and loving Him boldly. ❤️

Tonight, we had the opportunity to take some families from the church to Lifeline Charlotte to help pack meal boxes. What a blessing it was to come together, serve, and be a small part of something that is making a BIG difference in the lives of others!
