You are God’s masterpiece. Period. Hard stop.

Did you catch that? There’s no qualifier there, nothing you have to do, nothing other than God’s workmanship reflected in you that makes you that wonderful, beautiful work of art. Similarly, nothing you can do or have done will ever change the truth that you are God’s treasured creation. You just are. Because of HIS work. Period.

The Greek word here is poiema—closely related to our word poem. To put it another way, you are God’s poetic statement to the world.

What would it look like for you to live like this is true? If you believed that you truly were a masterpiece created by God to be His poetic statement to the world around you? What might that look like? How might your life change? Who might be impacted as Christ’s love flowed through you and out into the world?

Happy Father’s Day to all of the men out there, biological fathers or otherwise, who have put up with us, poured into us, and loved us through it all. Y’all really are the best and we are so, so grateful.

“When faced with how to respond to God, I have pre-decided that every prompting is an opportunity to obey God.”

Sometimes obedience can be scary. Maybe you sense God is calling you to something big. It’s scary! But sometimes even the little things feel terrifying too. Is it really God prompting me? How do I know? What if I get it wrong?

One of the best pieces of advice I have ever received was to just start following the promptings. The reality is that we cannot get to know God’s voice better if we are not trying to follow. And as we follow, we begin to learn when we’ve heard right and when we’ve heard not-quite-so-right. And through those attempts at obedience, we learn and grow and begin to recognize more clearly when God is speaking and where he is moving. We learn what it looks like to be faithful in the big and the small things. We learn that God is the One Who is orchestrating everything and He is the One Who will work for the outcome. Our role is faithful, consistent obedience as we learn what it looks like to faithfully follow God.

As you go throughout your day, watch and listen for little opportunities to obey. Respond to the quiet promptings in your heart. Not sure it’s God? Try it anyway! Before long, you’ll know God’s promptings more clearly and you experience His provision and power.

We talked this week about the reality that every interaction is an opportunity to add value. While we are not ultimately responsible for the emotional health and well-being of others—we all must take ownership of our own “stuff” in partnership with God—the reality is that God uses people like you and me to impact others, to move in their lives, to change the trajectory of where they are headed. We are called to be faithful partners in the work God is doing around us.

To that end, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on your faithfulness in this area.

• Where are you doing well? Are the little (or big) victories you can celebrate where your faithfulness impacted another for the better?
• Are the areas where you might need to repent for actions that were not in step with faithfulness, that may have negatively impacted those around you?
• What is one area where you can pre-decide to love others better this week?

““Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭1‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This verse popped into my (Krista’s) devotional this morning. Right reminder, right time. I don’t know where you’re at this morning, but know that the chase for the approval of others will always leave you empty. God intended from the beginning that we look to Him as our portion, as our Sustainer, as the One who tells us who we are and just how precious we are to Him. Human approval can never fully fill that gap; it has its place… an encouraging, loving friendship or an affirmation can be just what we need in a given moment. But ultimately, if we look to anyone other than God to fulfill our need to love and approval, we will find ourselves unfulfilled and longing for more.

To that end, here are a couple of questions you can ponder:
-Is there a place in your life where you have been seeking the approval of others over the approval of God?
-Do you trust that He really can fulfill all of your needs, including the need for love and acceptance?
-What would it look like for you to more fully trust Him today?
-What is a baby step you can take to move in that direction?

After this week’s rains (and snow!), this verse feels more poignant than ever. God will come to us. It is assured, promised, ours for the taking. Our job is to press on to acknowledge Him. If we do, we WILL experience his presence.
