The Two Ways
Matthew 7: 13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in there at: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Enter ye in at the strait gate (Narrow) means that one must come through the narrow gate in order to reach the path that leads to eternal life. Though many are on the broad way… that leadeth to destruction (eternal separation from God), the gate that leads to life is narrow and few that there be that find it. Christ himself is both the gate and the way.
John 14: 6 Jesus saith unto him I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the father but by me.
We have seen that Jesus said “I am the way.” Here in this passage, he speaks of being the way, which means that there are different ways: the broad way the leads to destruction and the narrow way that leads to life.
On the broad way there is room for all kinds of fleshly things like bitterness, sadness, wrath, malice, deceit, hypocrisy, hate, betrayal, insecurities, resentment, foolishness, vindictiveness, and etc. However, on the narrow path, there is only room for the focusing on God.
Proverbs 14:12 There is way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
You may think that your way is the right way, but you should examine yourself to see whether you are in the faith. 2 Corinthians 13:5
Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways, “says the LORD.
God is letting us know that his thoughts are not the same as our own. His ways are not the same as our ways. Therefore, we should evaluate ourselves to make sure we are thinking on pure things, just things, things of good reports, edifying one another, loving one another, and etc…
Proverbs 21: 2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.
Everybody wants to be right. Everyone thinks that they are right in their own eyes. However, one of the hardest things to do is to move pride to the side and admit when you are wrong. We must understand that naturally, we are prone to make mistakes and nobody is perfect. Nobody is right all the time. Therefore, the Lord weighs your heart. Your life will tell if you are on the Narrow path or the Broad path. Choose wisely!
