"True God-centered revival is the sovereign work of the Holy Spirit awakening spiritual life within God’s people, which results in deep conviction of sin, renewed love for Christ, a hunger for holiness, and compassion for the lost." (a good read)
Restore Us, O God
by Pastor Mark
Many people today wonder if America is experiencing revival. Some point to encouraging signs: large baptism gatherings, growing interest in Christianity among Gen Z adults, massive prayer rallies, public figures speaking openly about their faith, and viral moments online that present Christianity as culturally relevant again.
These developments seem to reflect a genuine spiritual hunger in people. But emotional excitement, political passion, and social momentum are easily mistaken for revival. Not every baptism reflects true conversion. Not every rally reflects repentance.
The Bible reminds us that true revival is not measured by crowds, cultural attention, or emotional experiences. True revival is marked by repentance, prayer, obedience, and love for neighbors.
Psalm 80 reflects this true revival. The psalmist is not asking for experience or influence. Rather, he prays, “Restore us, O God; let Your face shine, that we may be saved.”
The central crisis of Psalm 80 is not ultimately political decline, but divine disfavor brought on by the sin of God’s people. The psalm acknowledges that restoration comes from God alone. The repeated refrain teaches us that we cannot manufacture revival through pressure, strategy, or emotional intensity. Revival is a work of God, not man.
True God-centered revival is the sovereign work of the Holy Spirit awakening spiritual life within God’s people, which results in deep conviction of sin, renewed love for Christ, a hunger for holiness, and compassion for the lost.
Though religious fervor may stir up short-lived emotions and grab headlines, only the Spirit of God produces lasting transformation through revival rooted in restored fellowship with Him.
