Sometimes life hurts. Prayers seem unanswered. The future looks uncertain. In those moments, many people silently ask the question: "God, are You even there?"
This morning, Pastor Dan Barnes challenged us from God's Word with a powerful reminder: faith is not the absence of questions—it is knowing where to take them.
Scripture Text
Psalm 10:1 (KJV) "Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?"
Even David, a man after God's own heart, experienced moments when God seemed distant. The Bible does not hide the struggles of real people. Instead, it shows us how to respond when our faith is tested.
1. Keep Speaking to Him and Seeking for Him
Key Thought: Silence is not absence.
Psalm 13:1 (KJV) "How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?"
David did not stop believing when he was hurting.
He did not walk away from God.
He did not quit praying.
Instead, he brought his pain directly to the Lord.
Many people believe faith means never having questions. The truth is that biblical faith brings those questions to God rather than away from Him.
When prayer feels empty... When heaven seems silent... When answers don't come...Keep seeking Him.
Challenge:
• Pray honestly, not artificially.
• Keep praying when prayer feels difficult.
• Turn your questions toward God, not away from Him.
• Continue seeking Him even when you cannot feel Him.
2. When Life Makes No Sense, Refuse to Judge God Too Soon
Key Thought:
Do not interpret God's character by one painful chapter.
Job 13:15 (KJV) "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him."
Job lost his family, his wealth, his health, and his reputation.
He did not understand what God was doing.
But he refused to condemn God because of what he could not understand.
Faith is often tested most severely when the pain is real and the purpose is hidden.
Challenge:
• Don't make permanent conclusions during temporary pain.
• Don't allow what you don't know to destroy what you do know.
• Don't demand that God explain everything before you trust Him.
• Remember that God's plan is bigger than your current circumstances.
There are chapters of life we do not understand today, but God is still writing the story.
3. When Your Faith Feels Broken, Bring What Is Left Back to Jesus
Key Thought:
Jesus does not throw away wounded people.
Mark 9:24 (KJV) "And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief."
One of the most honest prayers in all of Scripture was not prayed by a spiritual giant.
It was prayed by a desperate father.
His faith was struggling.
His heart was hurting.
His belief was imperfect.
Yet Jesus responded with compassion.
God is not looking for perfect faith before He helps you.
He responds to honest faith.
Challenge:
• Bring Jesus the faith you have, not the faith you wish you had.
• Stop pretending and start confessing.
• Bring your burdens, doubts, fears, and hurts to Christ.
• Look again at the wounds of Christ and remember His love for you.

Final Truth
God was there when David cried, "How long?"
God was there when Job sat among the ashes.
God was there when the desperate father cried through tears.
God was there when Thomas struggled to believe.
And God is still there today.
Do not confuse the hiddenness of God with the absence of God.
Feelings change.
Circumstances change.
Trials come and go.
But God remains faithful.
Hebrews 13:5 (KJV) "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."
