Join us for joint Quarterly Meeting hosted by Miami Quarterly Meeting! Saturday, Oct 24, 1pm – Sunday, Oct. 25, 3pm. Please reach out and RSVP to Lisa Cayard with your name, if you plan to stay overnight, and if you have any dietary needs.

Schedule:

Saturday Oct 24
1:00pm Arrival, sign in, get settled in cabins, sign up for meal prep and clean up
2:00pm Gather for introductions, welcome activity, and brief worship
3- 5:00 Creative Intergenerational Activities (Children will do the first three in order)

Join us for Second Hour Sunday Oct. 18th at approximately 11:45am for 1 hour. Steve Angell will present on Martha Simmons and Women's Ministry in the 1650's. His bio is below.

Stephen W. Angell is a Geraldine C. Leatherock Professor of Quaker Studies at Earlham School of Religion in Richmond, Indiana. His scholarship blends historical analysis with theological reflection, focusing on the intersection of Quaker traditions, social justice, and Christian history. He has been active in Quaker and interfaith communities and is the author or co-author of many books and articles, including:

Friends Committee on National Legislation- We are deeply disturbed and sickened by the U.S. military’s plans to broadcast a public ex*****on. As a Quaker organization, our opposition to the death penalty is rooted in our belief in the inherent dignity of all people. Carrying out a public ex*****on as if for entertainment would inflict a terrible and shameful wound on the moral soul of our nation.

Our faith teaches us that violence harms all those who partake in it, and we are dismayed by all the ways that life is cheapened and discarded by state violence carried out in all of our names -- from police killings of Black people, to lawless ICE violence in our streets, to the endless wars our government inflicts on people abroad.

We call on members of Congress to strongly oppose this ex*****on, and to act to abolish the death penalty for good.

The Pentagon said it planned to livestream the firing-squad ex*****on of Nidal Malik Hasan, a former officer who admitted to killing 13 people in a 2009 shooting at Fort Hood Army base in Texas.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in an interview with a conservative news outlet aired Thursday that he had wanted to ensure “people are able to watch it” because “people need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things.”

The ex*****on is scheduled to take place on Dec. 3 at Fort Hood.

Hasan’s ex*****on would be the first by the U.S. military in more than 65 years. A servicemember hasn’t been executed by firing squad since 1945.

Hasan, a former Army major who worked as a psychiatrist, was convicted of multiple counts of premeditated murder and attempted murder in connection with the shooting, one of the worst soldier-on-soldier crimes in U.S. military history.

On October 12th at 6:30pm we will be hosting a Touch Grass for Peace sit at Community Friends Meeting House! Immediately following this event will be our weekly game night. So come, touch some grass, center yourself for peace, and then join us for some games!

Please join us tonight 7pm at the meeting house for a viewing and discussion on "Disturbing The Peace". The film focuses on the organization Combatants for Peace, people who have previously been engaged in violence, but who came to recognize the humanity of people on the other side of the conflict and who are now committed to nonviolent action.

Formed in 2006, Combatants for Peace (CFP) "is a grassroots movement of Israelis and Palestinians working together to end the occupation and bring peace, freedom and safety for all people between the Jordan river and the Mediterranean Sea.

The evening's event will be facilitated by Bill Lonneman, a Xavier University theology graduate and member of Being Peace Sangha, a Buddhist group in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh.
