❤️ 𝐖𝐡𝐨’𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐰𝐬? 𝑳𝒐𝒊𝒔 𝑩𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒏 ❤️

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗿𝘆?
The first Sunday I visited & every Sunday since.

𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲?
The people sitting next to me in the pew.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱, “𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵”?
When joining the worship services by Zoom during lockdown (in 2020)—that was my first time to worship with Calvary.

𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸.
The anthems, certainly. The organ/piano/instrumental preludes & postludes—whether hymn-based or not.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽?
Most often through the music, but also profoundly through the sermons.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂?
Yes! If this church didn’t put hands & feet on what we say we believe, it would not be everything a church should be.

𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗮𝘄 𝗚𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗿𝘆’𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀.
Where to start?! I see it, obviously in Laundry Love, El Hogar, our Christian Education program, food pantry, our partnerships with other churches, hospitality ministries that help people feel welcome, including ushers…

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆?
I joined Calvary after my daughter was grown.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗿𝘆’𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲?
Everything! Calvary is a vibrant community that lives in the present and prepares for the future while honoring & building on the past. That perspective is important to me.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗿𝘆?
Because the Bible tells us to give.
Because I want to support the work & ministry of Calvary.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻?
It’s a vibrant faith community that ticks all the boxes for me—Episcopal, good preaching, strong Christian formation, strong support of ministry and missions, and an outstanding music ministry.

𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐫 - 𝑴𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑮𝒐𝒅'𝒔 𝑰𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒆?
𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟴 @𝟭𝟬𝗮𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹

The enchanted, spirits-filled world is original. The secular, atoms-in-the-void world had to be invented. People who say, “nature is my church,” are not wrong. We’ll discuss imagining paradise as a lush and thriving garden, rather than as a ruler’s domain. One wonders to what extent our references to being created in God’s image are rationalizations for creating God in our own image. Led by 𝗗𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗲𝗱.

El Hogar. Visiting & working to sustain the mission of God’s work in Honduras was soul changing.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆?
Our 2 adult children feel comfortable in church.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?
A combination of tradition & faith help to enhance our world.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗿𝘆’𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲?
Hope comes from the enthusiasm for worship & community building activities.

When one loves, one gives.

The entirety of what Calvary is through the good times & the rough patches. There is a heartfelt connection that goes beyond words

The Reverend Canon Aaron Rogers serves as the Canon for Ministry in our Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio, and has previously served as the Missioner for Black Ministries in our diocese.

Aaron brings a wealth of experience and wisdom from his years of ministry in different contexts and settings.

𝐇𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐲 𝐋.

When I first wanted to get involved with Tender Mercies, it was pretty simple: I just wanted to help people experiencing homelessness. Whenever I see someone who is struggling or doesn't have a place to live, I feel for them and just want to do as much as I possibly can to make a difference.

I think it is awesome for kids my age to get involved in a ministry like this. If you teach kids to serve and give back right now, we’re going to keep doing it on our own as we grow up. It helps us build a good habit for the rest of our lives.

When we did a quiz on spiritual gifts, my highest ones were serving, ministering, and giving. To me, serving means stepping up to help someone who really needs your time, talent, or treasure. It’s about sharing with someone who doesn't have the things I might even have too much of. Jesus said that whenever we feed the hungry or help someone in need, we are actually serving Him, which makes the work even more important.

Plus, the people we serve really start to notice you! One time I couldn't make it, and they asked where I was. It showed me that just showing up matters to them. If I had to tell another kid why they should come help out at Tender Mercies, I'd tell them that helping someone who needs it just makes you feel really good inside.
