What’s Blooming in the Knox Garden in 2026?
Smooth and Oak Leaf Hydrangeas (Pictured here) are the only Hydrangeas native to North America. Unlike some sterile Asian cultivars, native hydrangeas provide critical nectar sources for native bees, and act as larval hosts for insects like the Hydrangea Sphinx Moth. Unlike their "mophead" counterparts, which are dense, sterile spheres with no nectar, “lacecap” varieties feature flat, disc-like centers rich in nectar and pollen.
