West Cincinnati Presbyterian Church evolved from the merger of 3 churches that date back to 1850. It is one of a few congregations to survive a change from an all European background to all African- American membership. After the 1937 flood 916 Poplar was our home and Rev. Wesley Almy served as pastor from 1932-1945.
Rev. Maurice McCrackin became pastor, in 1945, of a merged West Cincinnati & St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Under his leadership the church became a driving force against segregation and for justice in our city. All people were welcomed and the church became an integrated congregation (a rare find in the 1940's). In 1965 The Episcopal Diocese withdrew its support.
This congregation continued its fight for justice and community issues under the direction of Rev. Dr. Richard D. Sellers. We were a driving force in establishing the West End Health Center, and addressing the many needs of our Community. The youth became a main focus and integral part of our Church Family. The tradition continued under the leadership of Rev. Richard E. McNeill, the Revs. Robert & Patricia Clary, and Rev Charles Tinsley. Our Current Pastor Rev Dana Stout, along with Rev. Paul Jones continue to help make West Cincinnati a driving force in the community.
