We thought you might enjoy this letter we received from our Dayton Stake President, Rick Valencia,
President and Sister Welch,
Your Full Time Missionaries were awesome yesterday during our clean up efforts in the Dayton area. They were there with smiles, cheerful hearts and strong arms to carry the loads of trees and debris. The Elders were quick to jump in every time some said, “I need 3-4 strong men’s to pick this tree up”. The Sisters were amazing! They were right in the thick of it all picking up and carrying large tree limbs and debris as well. They were not afraid or bashful about it and they all worked so well together.
I witnessed a older lady volunteer engage in a discussion with one of the Sisters about who they were and where she was from. The lady was shocked to hear she had come from out west just to help with the tornado clean up. One of our local members jumped into the discussion to explain about full time missionaries and what they do. The lady was amazed.
It was a real blessing to have so many helping yesterday. There is still so much work needed, but we got accomplished much of what the city wanted in the specific neighborhood we were working yesterday. They have drain ditches that fill up with water after heavy rains and these ditches were filled with debris. We needed to clear the ditches so that the homes wouldn’t become flooded during the next rain and possibly create further damage to homes and property.
Thanks for allowing these missionaries to help in the clean up efforts. I hope we can call upon them again. I also hope none of them received too many cuts and scratches or got into any poison ivy.
We sure love the Full Time Missionaries,
Rick
