Today, however, the beautiful old churches, cathedrals and Celtic Crosses are mere relics of the once robust faith that inhabited Ireland, Scotland, and the other Celtic lands. Houses of worship are sparsely attended or altogether empty as the post-Christian secularism of Western Europe displaces the religion of Jesus in many Celtic areas. As such, the spiritual hopes of the residents of these lan

ds now lie as desolate and decaying as the ruins of the numerous castles that dot their country sides. With the help of people like you, Celtic Christian Mission wants to halt the expansion of secularism and re-plant the seeds of faith in the Celtic nations of Europe. Through your prayers and financial support for this ministry, you not only enable us to share the love and truth of Christ in the Celtic regions, but you also become a fellow worker in this good cause (3 John 7-8). Please continue to browse our website and feel free to request a copy of our e-newsletter. Also, we hope you will prayerfully consider making a financial contribution to assist with the ministry of Celtic Christian Mission. Cherok, Ph.D. Executive Director

CELTIC CHRISTIAN MISSION encourages all people everywhere to reflect upon the risen Lord on this special day we call EASTER SUNDAY. Consider the meaning of this most unique event in all of history and its implications for us today. Hallelujah!!! ... Christ arose from the grave and conquered death! As a result of His victory over sin and death, He offers each of us eternal life with Him. -- Matthew 28:1-20.

Northern Ireland is a place where history isn't just in books, it's woven into the very landscape, waiting to be discovered.

The 25th anniversary of the planting of the largest hedge maze in Europe, located within the picturesque Castlewellan Forest Park in Co Down, is to be celebrated with a series of events over the next few months.

The Peace Maze — which opened in 2001 only three years after the Good Friday Agreement — was created with the help of over 4,000 schoolchildren who planted 6,000 yew trees in the hopes of celebrating peace in Northern Ireland.

The initial concept was created with a design competition which pupils entered.

At its opening in 2001, it held the Guinness World Record for the largest hedge maze in the world, featuring over two miles of paths.

It is now still recognised as the largest in Europe.

THE LEGEND OF PATRICK AND THE PASCHAL FIRE – Soon after his return to Ireland as a Christian missionary, legend says that Patrick came to Tara, where the High Kings of Éire were gathered for their pagan worship. Amid their celebrations, festive fires were lit at Tara, but all other fires were forbidden by the High Kings. On the night before Easter, March 26, 433, Patrick defied the order by lighting a Paschal (Easter) Fire on the Hill of Slane, across the valley from Tara, in honor of Christ’s resurrection. Noticing the illegal fire, High King Laoghaire and his attendants (including Erc, who was later baptized and became the first bishop of Slane) traveled to the distant hill to extinguish the unlawful flame. He was so impressed with Patrick, however, that he permitted him to continue his proclamation of the Gospel message in Ireland. Every year on Holy Saturday, a fire is again lit on the Hill of Slane in honor of Patrick’s original Pascal Fire.

On this Holy Saturday, as we reflect upon the death, burial, and resurrection of our Savior, may we imitate Patrick’s lighting of the Paschal Fire by letting our light shine before others so that they may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in Heaven (Matt. 5:16).

CELTIC CHRISTIAN MISSION encourages all people everywhere to pause for a few moments on this HOLY SATURDAY, the day between death and life, to reflect upon its significance. For it was on this day that the cross stood empty, the Savior's lifeless body lay silent in the tomb, and the disciples were uncertain and afraid of what the future may bring. But as the next day would reveal, God was not finished with His plan for human redemption. -- Matthew 27:57-66
