Annie Mary Adams Obituary
Born to Deanna White and Willie Davidson on November 1, 1927 in Mexia, Alabama. Annie Mary Adams spent her formative years in Panama City, FL and Mobile, Alabama.
In March 1945, Annie Mary married Edward Cobb (of Hopkinsville, Kentucky) and had three wonderful children James Edward “Butch” Cobb, Angela Lorraine Jemison, and Beverly Anita Hardy.
As a self-taught printing enthusiast, Annie Mary Adams began her printing career as the first African American printer for the prestigious medical institution Good Samaritan Hospital. She took this passion further to embrace her love of entrepreneurship and also worked as a freelance printer, running a home business. She later established herself as the first African American female manager with the Printing Department at General Electric in Evendale, OH. She spent her career breaking barriers among leadership and forming lifelong bonds for 26 years, finally retiring from General Electric in 1991 at the age of 62.
Annie Mary Adams was an inspiration to her family and a longstanding resident and support to the Kennedy Heights community. She’s volunteered both locally in her community and around the world. For more than 25 years, she worked at the Hamilton County Board of Elections and supported missions across the globe in South Africa and contributed to philanthropic work with Uttermost Missions in Zimbabwe. In Cincinnati, she established a volunteer nursing home visitation program throughout the Tri-State, where they provided monthly ministry and annual gift donations to nursing home residents.
She was an avid gardener, featured in the Cincinnati Enquirer as a winner of the Kennedy Heights Landscape award; and inducted into the Cincinnati Recreation Commission Senior Citizen Hall of Fame for exceptional contributions in 2009. All of this while maintaining weekly Friday games with her bowling league, the Christ Emmanuel Seniors, well into her 90s.
Throughout her life and into retirement she traveled the world enjoying international destinations including Egypt, Mexico, Israel, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
Annie Mary Adams walked with God throughout her life raising her children at Saint Mark Catholic Church, and accepting Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a member of Kings Mountain Church. As a member of Tree of Life Church, Annie remained a shining beacon of faith to her family and friends, and she continued to enrich all the lives she came into contact with up until her death.
Annie Mary Adams is preceded in death by her husband Raymond Adams, and her son James Edward Cobb. Her eleven brothers and sisters Willie Davidson, Roosevelt Lambert, Charlie Lambert, Mason Lambert, Tedro Lambert, Tossie Hetherington, Luvenia Rogers, Josephine Rogers, Mary Asbury, and Thomasine King.
She leaves behind her daughters Angela Jemison (James) and Beverly Hardy (James), daughter-in-law Judith Cobb, and sister-in-law Gertrude Lambert. She also leaves her six grandchildren Stephen Weatherford (Kathryn), James Edward Cobb Jr., Michael Cobb, Brian Hardy, Rachael Hardy, and Jordan Stamps (Sean). She leaves a legacy of 16 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, her nieces and nephews and a host of extended family members, spiritual sons and daughters, including Marie Huggins and Christine Williams.
Annie Mary Adams will be laid to rest in a private homegoing celebration at Tree of Life Church (Cincinnati, OH 45242) and interred at Rest Haven Memorial Park (Cincinnati, OH 45241) on Saturday January 2, 2021.In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in her honor to her most cherished cause, the Tree of Life Church “Ready Now” Fund.
