On May 16, the Church in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati rejoiced as nine men were ordained to the priesthood at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains.

Please join in praying for Fathers Nicholas Emmerling, Curtis Gross, Kraig Gruss, David Homoelle, Daniel Jasek, Benjamin Klare, Doug Moore, Benjamin Packer, and Jacob Schmeising as they begin their ministry of serving God and His people. Come, Holy Spirit. 🔥 On Pentecost, the Church celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, strengthening them to proclaim the Gospel to the nations.
May the same Spirit continue to renew the Church, deepen faith, and set hearts ablaze with the love of Christ.

“Relying on the help of the Lord God and of our Savior Jesus Christ, we choose these men, our brothers, for the Order of the Priesthood.”

These words rang out through the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains in Cincinnati this morning as nine men stood side by side before Archbishop Casey, their backs to hundreds in the congregation. These nine men, Nicholas Emmerling, Curtis Gross, Kraig Gruss, David Homoelle, Daniel Jasek, Benjamin Klare, Doug Moore, Benjamin Packer, and Jacob Schmiesing, lined up prepared to be ordained priests. Their expressions ranged from stoic to ecstatic as years of intentional discernment, study, and formation culminated.

Join the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in a 9-day novena for the nine men who will be ordained to the priesthood on Saturday, May 16. Each day, we’ll pray through the intercession of St. John Vianney, patron saint of parish priests. 🙏 Today we are praying for Kraig Gruss! Deacon Kraig is the third of six boys from Coldwater who grew up involved in 4-H raising ducks, chickens, rabbits, and pigeons for the fair. This built character and taught Deacon Kraig and his brothers discipline and responsibility.

God our Father, through the intercession of St. John Vianney, patron saint of parish priests, we ask for Your abundant graces poured upon Deacon Kraig Gruss whom you have called to the service of the people of God and chosen for the priesthood of Jesus Christ. May he faithfully exercise the sacred duty of teaching in the name of Christ the Teacher. Amen.

Each day, we’ll pray through the intercession of St. John Vianney, patron saint of parish priests. 🙏 Today we are praying for Deacon Jacob Schmiesing! Deacon Jacob was born in Washington State and is the oldest of seven children. Moving to Ohio just before his seventh birthday, they eventually settled near Sidney, where his dad grew up. Deacon Jacob has three adopted brothers and three biological siblings. He loves sports, especially soccer, and his favorite saint is St. Christopher, patron saint of travelers, since his family regularly was moving or traveling!
