May Day, also known as International Workers’ Day, has roots stretching back more than 136 years to a powerful labor movement that won real change through collective action, with workers and organizers often facing brutal suppression. Today, we honor this history through nonviolent direct action, guided by moral clarity and broad solidarity.

This Friday, May 1st, consider striking or participating in a work stoppage, withdrawing your labor as a peaceful but powerful act of noncooperation. If that isn't an option, a boycott lets you use your consumer power to send an unmistakable message. Peaceful marches and rallies are another way to add your voice and body to a nationwide call-to-action.

Showing up together, nonviolently, is one of the most time-tested ways to challenge unjust systems and create lasting change. Read on for ways you can show up in solidarity locally this May Day and beyond.
