In 1994, Congress declared Martin Luther King Jr. Day a National Day of Service.

Every year since, volunteers across the nation unite to lift one another through kindness, support, and purposeful service. This January, join the movement to uplift, inspire, and Be Great—by simply choosing to serve.

This month we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. taught that everyone has the power to make a difference—through peaceful action, courageous voices, loving service, and unity. His message fits beautifully with our shared discipleship as followers of Jesus Christ, who calls us to reach outward, lift the weary, and care for one another.

“When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.”
— Mosiah 2:17

The Savior also reminds us:
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”
— Matthew 5:9

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is more than a remembrance—it is a call to action. This is a time to ask ourselves: How can I reach out? How can I speak up? How can I serve? Whether through volunteering, attending a community event, helping a neighbor, or standing for kindness and justice, every effort—big or small—helps move the world forward.

Across our region, there are many opportunities to come together and commemorate Dr. King’s legacy of peace, service, justice, and love for one another:
