My dear brothers and sisters of OLM:
On this Sunday’s gospel (XIII ORD) we are told about the Lord’s call and its demands. Those who seek to respond God’s call must understand that they must surrender their own plans and accept with love the mission of going out and announcing the Kingdom of God wherever the Lord tells them. That call can only bring us to fullness when it is answered from freedom. As Paul the apostle tells us, freedom is our main vocation, and the exercise of that freedom must be oriented towards serving others in love.
Our passing through this world is like a pilgrimage, in which our destination is well fixed: entering the presence of God in heaven. Throughout this pilgrimage, we encounter situations, circumstances, places, and above all, we coincide with people who help us to grow, from whom we learn and who encourage us to continue walking, to be better, to renew ourselves.
I have coincided with you during four years in this pilgrimage called life. I have learned a lot from you, and with you I have learned more. I have to say that my major concern in these four years, has been that you all get closer to Jesus Christ, that you get to know him better, that you fall in love with him, so that you are willing to follow him. My focus has always been on the importance of being conscious in seeking to mature our faith in Jesus Christ, and that this maturity leads us to an authentic experience of life and freedom. My greatest desire is that the community under my care may live the encounter with the Lord Jesus in an authentic way, from a well-understood and well-lived faith.
Together we walk through very good and not so good times. Despite the difficulties, like the pandemic, I did my best to serve Jesus present in all of you. It is up to you to judge my job as a pastor. I hope you will be clement with me!
As you know, I have been asked to serve in another community not far from here. My faith tells me that it is God who asks me for this, and just as at the beginning of my ministry among, I entrust myself to the mercy and grace of God for this new mission. It fills me with hope that the parish entrusted to me is also dedicated to the Mother of the Lord. You know something? Since I was a seminarian, and then as a deacon and priest, the parishes where I have served have been communities dedicated to Our Blessed Mother.
I can only feel blessed with God and with all of you; I want to thank the entire community of Our Lady of Mount, the wonderful Staff, the generous volunteers, and benefactors for these years of my ministry with you. Thank you for receiving me warmly, thank you for walking with me, for teaching me. Thank you for your support, your kind smiles, and your generous commitment to God and his Church. It is Christ whom we follow, it is Him whom we serve. May Himself be your reward.
I commend myself to your prayers. I continue to pray for all of you and your families.
