Good morning everyone,
I wanted to send out a quick email to inform you that this Sunday we will be looking at a section of Job that could be very difficult for some of us to get through. Job chapter 3 spends a great deal of time talking about miscarriages and death. I wanted to send this out so that you can choose with wisdom how you might participate that day.
For some, simply taking a day off might be best. You could also opt to help teach the children's class that takes place during the service. Or, perhaps, simply being aware of what will be talked about in advance may be enough to allow you to prepare yourself. As your minister, I feel it unwise for me to speak on Job 3 without first giving you advance notice.
Some might ask, "if Job 3 is so dark, why not skip it or do a quick summary?" Indeed, Job 3 is a very dark chapter, but it is a chapter that cannot be skipped. Life is dark at times, and Job 3 gives us permission to scream into the darkness with all the angst, fear and dread we can muster.
As always, I will attempt to not have the entire sermon be one of complete despair, but sometimes the darkness is very dark. Since we are Unlocking Wisdom, it would be unwise to skip the chapter that recognizes this reality (as well as the chapter that launches the next 39 chapters of the book).
May God grant you a blessed rest of the week.
Your Servant,
Rob
