Call to Worship: 1 Samuel 2:1-10

Hail To The Lord’s Anointed ( #311)
Hail to the Lord’s Anointed,
great David’s greater Son!
Hail, in the time appointed,
his reign on earth begun!
He comes to break oppression,
to set the captive free,
to take away transgression,
and rule in equity.

He comes with comfort speedy
to those who suffer wrong;
to help the poor and needy,
and bid the weak be strong;
to give them songs for sighing,
their darkness turn to light,
whose souls, condemned and dying,
were precious in his sight,

He shall come down like showers
upon the fruitful earth;
and love, joy, hope, like flowers,
spring in his path to birth;
before him on the mountains
shall peace, the herald, go;
and righteousness, in fountains,
from hill to valley flow.

O’er ev’ry foe victorious,
he on his throne shall rest,
from age to age more glorious,
all-blessing and all-blessed;
the tide of time shall never
his covenant remove;
his name shall stand forever–
that name to us is Love.

Prayer
Bow down Your ear, O Lord, and hear us, for we are poor and needy. Be merciful to us, O Lord, for we cry to You all day long. O High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: You dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, but we confess that we have been rich in pride. Blessed are those who mourn, but we have had little sorrow for our sins. Blessed are the meek, but we have been a stiff-necked people. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, but we have fed ourselves with unrighteousness. Blessed are the merciful, but we have been unforgiving and impatient. Blessed are the pure in heart, but we have pursued our evil desires. Blessed are the peacemakers, but we have been angry and divisive. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, but our lives have not challenged the world.

Though the LORD is on high, yet He regards the lowly; but the proud He knows from afar. Though we walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive us. The LORD will perfect that which concerns us; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; do not forsake the works of Your hands.

You resist the proud, but give grace to the humble. We humble ourselves under Your mighty hand, that You may exalt us in due time, casting all our care upon You, for You care for us. And may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after we have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle us. To You be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
(Ps 86:1-3, Mt 5:3-10, Isa 57:15, Ps 138:5-8, 1 Pet 5:5-11)

Assurance of Grace: Luke 18:9-14

Just As I Am ( #501)
Just as I am, without one plea
but that thy blood was shed for me,
and that thou bidd’st me come to thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, and waiting not
to rid my soul of one dark blot,
to thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, though tossed about
with many a conflict, many a doubt,
fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind;
sight, riches, healing of the mind,
yea, all I need, in thee to find,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, thou wilt receive,
wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
because thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, thy love unknown
has broken ev’ry barrier down;
now, to be thine, yea, thine alone,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 9

Psalm 113: O Praise the LORD (Ps. 113)
O praise the LORD; Sing praise,
All servants of the LORD.
Come praise the LORD’s great name,
Bless Him forevermore.
From dawn to dusk, from east to west,
O let the LORD’s name there be blessed.

LORD over nations all,
His glory crowns the sky.
Who’s like the LORD our God,
Enthroned in heaven high?
Who condescends that He may know
All things in heav’n and earth below?

He lifts the poor from dust,
And from the ashes’ heap.
He lifts the needy high,
Among nobility.
The barren wife has joy restored
With home and children. Praise the LORD.

Sermon: Exalting the Humble (Luke 1:46-55)

Psalm 72:5-8: Nomads Will Bow (Ps. 72B)
Nomads will bow to him as king;
Licking the dust, his foes will bend.
Islands and Tarshish gifts will bring,
Sheba and Seba tribute send.

So shall all kings before him fall,
All nations his commands obey.
He’ll save the needy when they call,
Those who are poor and have no aid.

He’ll show the poor his sympathy,
And he will save the needy’s life.
From fraud and force he’ll set them free;
Their blood is precious in his sight.

So he will live, and Sheba’s gold
They’ll as a gift before him lay;
In constant prayer they’ll him uphold,
And they will bless him all the day.

Call to Worship: Isaiah 49:6-12

Prayer
Our Father in Heaven, all nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, and shall glorify Your name. For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God.

We pray in these latter days as the mountain of Your house is established on top of the mountains, and exalted above the hills, that peoples shall flow to it, that many nations shall come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord.” And may the earth be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

Teach us again the love of Christ, which passes knowledge; that we may be filled with all the fullness of God. Do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to Your power that works in us, and to You be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
(Ps 86:5-13, Mic 4:1-2, Hab 2:14, 2Th 1:11-12; Eph 3:19-21)

O Sing a New Song to the Lord (Psalm 96A; 96:1-8)
O sing a new song to the LORD;
All earth sing to the LORD.
Sing to the LORD, and bless His name;
“He saves!” each day proclaim.
His glory to all nations show;
His deeds let peoples know.

The LORD is great, great praise He’s due.
He’s feared above all gods.
For peoples’ gods mere idols are;
The LORD the heavens made.
Before Him honor, majesty,
And strength and splendor dwell.

O families of earth, ascribe
All glory to the LORD.
All strength ascribe unto the Lord;
Give glory due His name.
Come to the LORD, into His courts,
And bring an offering.

Prayer
O God, who made the world and everything in it, You give to all life, breath, and all things. And You have made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and have determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek You, Lord, in the hope that they might grope for You and find You, though You are not far from each one of us; for in You we live and move and have our being.

We know that these last days perilous times will come, for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. Forgive us for partaking in such sins!

We were once without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus we who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

You have put Your Spirit upon Him, and He has declared justice to the nations. He did not quarrel nor cry out, nor did anyone hear His voice in the streets. A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench, till He sends forth justice to victory; and in His name the nations will trust.

And now we pray, our Father, that You would count us worthy of Your calling, and that by Your power, you may fulfill every good desire and every faithful work in us, that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in us, and us in Him, in whose name we pray. Amen.
(Acts 17:24ff, 2Ti 1:3-5, Eph 2:12-16, Mic 4:1-2, Hab 2:14, 2Th 1:11-12)

Assurance of Grace: Colossians 1:13-14, 19-20

Praise Him! Praise Him! (Hymn #173)
Praise him! praise him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
Sing, O earth, his wonderful love proclaim!
Hail him! hail him! highest archangels in glory;
strength and honor give to his holy name!
Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard his children,
in his arms he carries them all day long:

Praise him! praise him!
tell of his excellent greatness;
praise him! praise Him!
ever in joyful song!

Praise him! praise him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
For our sins he suffered and bled and died;
he our Rock, our hope of eternal salvation,
hail him! hail him! Jesus the Crucified.
Sound his praises! Jesus who bore our sorrows,
love unbounded, wonderful, deep, and strong: …

Praise him! praise him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
Heav'nly portals loud with hosannas ring!
Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever;
crown him! crown him! Prophet and Priest and King!
Christ is coming! over the world victorious,
pow'r and glory unto the Lord belong: …

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 5

God, Give Your Judgments To The King ( , Psalm 72:1-8)
God, give Your judgments to the king,
And give his son Your righteousness.
He to Your people right will bring,
With justice will Your poor redress.

Mountains will bring prosperity,
The hills bring peace by righteousness.
He’ll judge the poor, their young set free,
And crush the ones who have oppressed.

Long as the sun and moon are known
They’ll fear You through the ages all.
He’ll come as rain on meadows mown,
Like showers on the earth that fall.

The just will flourish in his days,
While lasts the moon will peace extend.
From sea to sea will be his reign,
And from the River to earth’s end.

Sermon: Christ’s Resurrection (Luke 24:1-43)

Christ Shall Have Dominion ( #439, Psalm 72:8-14, 17-19)
Christ shall have dominion over land and sea,
Earth's remotest regions shall his empire be;
they that wilds inhabit shall their worship bring,
kings shall render tribute, nations serve our King.

Christ shall have dominion over land and sea,
earth's remotest regions shall his empire be.

When the needy seek him, he will mercy show;
yea, the weak and helpless shall his pity know;
he will surely save them from oppression's might,
for their lives are precious in his holy sight. …

Ever and forever shall his name endure,
long as suns continue it shall stand secure;
and in him forever all men shall be blest,
and all nations hail him King of kings confessed. …

Unto God Almighty joyful Zion sings;
he alone is glorious, doing wondrous things.
Evermore, ye people, bless his glorious name,
his eternal glory through the earth proclaim. …
