ARE YOU A DOUBTER? OR A DOER? Matthew 21:18-22
*Prayer before Sermon: Our God, Who Is always here and there with us. We pray to You this morning asking for more faith and trust in You and Your Word! Please forgive us for our doubting You last week in the smallest and then ginormous things that we know You can do. We strongly request as the Apostles did in Luke 17:5, “Lord Increase Our Faith.” We pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen. It was John Wolfgang Von Goethe that renowned German playwright and poet of the 17th-18th Century who said, “Give me the benefit of your convictions, if you have any; but keep your doubts to yourself, for I have enough of my own.”
*Presentation of Sermon: The word doubt is a negative word meaning: The state of being unsure of something. Or Uncertainty about the truth, factuality or existence of something or someone. (Ref.-WordWeb Dict. 1023). Accordingly, a doubter is a person who habitually doubts accepted beliefs and is not committed to something or someone. This word doubt is found 13 times, with 72 examples in The Bible! The New Testament Greek word for doubt is diakrino, it means to hesitate, to stagger, to waver, and even to oppose. Come with me now to our Sermon Text: Matthew 21:18-22 Vs.18 In the morning, as Jesus was returning to the city, he became hungry. Vs.19 Seeing a fig tree by the roadside, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. He told it, “May fruit never come from you again!” And immediately the fig tree dried up. Vs.20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree dry up so quickly?” they asked. Vs.21 Jesus answered them, “I tell you with certainty, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you be able to do what has been done to the fig tree, but you will also say to this mountain, 'Be removed and thrown into the sea,' and it will happen. Vs.22 You will receive whatever you ask for in prayer if you believe.” 😊
*Point of Sermon Today: Doubting does 3 damaging things to you as a Christian: WHOA!
(1). Doubt decreases your faith in God. Read Luke 12:28.
(2). Doubt damages your trust in The Bible. Read Psalm 19:7.
(3). Doubt destroys your ability to live a Christian lifestyle. Read 2nd Corinthians 5:7; James 1:8.
To Become a Christian, one must: Hear the Gospel. Romans 1:16,10:17. Believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son. John 8:24. Repent from past sins. Luke 13:3. Confess Jesus Christ as God’s Son. Matthew 10:32-33. Be baptized to get sins removed. Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38. Or come back to Him, if you’ve strayed away. James 5:19-20. THE TITLE: WHAT IF I DON’T LIKE, NOR WANT YOU CORRECTING ME?

A Proverbial Scripture Point To Consider: Severe punishment awaits the one who turns away from the truth, and those who rebel against correction will die. Proverbs 15:10 (TPT).

THE TEXT: Hebrews 12:5-13 from The Easy Read Version of The Bible:

Vs.5 You are children of God, and he speaks words of comfort to you. You have forgotten these words: “My child, don't think the Lord's discipline is worth nothing, and don’t stop trying when he corrects you. Read Proverbs 3:11-12 (GNB) Vs.11 My child, when the LORD corrects you, pay close attention and take it as a warning. Vs.12 The LORD corrects those he loves, as parents correct a child of whom they are proud (care about). The Hebrew word here is ahab, יאהב meaning to accept, delight in, and love. 😊 Vs.6 The Lord disciplines everyone he loves; he punishes everyone he accepts as a child.” Vs.7 So accept sufferings like a father's discipline. God does these things to you like a father correcting his children. You know that all children are disciplined by their fathers. Vs.8 So, if you never receive the discipline that every child must have, you are not true children and don't really belong to God. Vs.9 We have all had fathers here on earth who corrected us with discipline. And we respected them. So, it is even more important that we accept discipline from the Father of our spirits. If we do this, we will have life. Vs.10 Our fathers on earth disciplined us for a short time in the way they thought was best. But God disciplines us to help us so that we can be holy like him. Vs.11 We don't enjoy discipline when we get it. It is painful. But later, after we have learned our lesson from it, we will enjoy the peace that comes from doing what is right. Vs.12 You have become weak, so make yourselves strong again. Vs.13 Live in the right way so that you will be saved, and your weakness will not cause you to be lost.

THE TEACHING: Accepting The Lord’s Correction from Him, and from faithful Christians does 3 things for us:

1). We Grow more in the likeness of Christ. Read 2nd Peter 3:18.

2). We Know more of Who Christ Is. Read 2nd Timothy 1:12; Philippians 3:10.

3). We Show more of the behavior of Christ in meekness and wisdom. (gentleness, humility). Read Matthew 11:29; James 3:13.

THE (7) DON'TS OF CORRECTION FOR THE CHRISTIAN…☹

Don’t Act Like It Wasn’t So Bad When You’re Corrected.

Don’t Become Angry When You’re Corrected.

Don’t Blame Someone Else When You’re Corrected.

Don’t Despise (Hate) When You’re Corrected.

Don’t Fuss With The Person When You’re Corrected.

Don’t Pretend That It Wasn’t Your Fault When You’re Corrected.

Don’t Take It Lightly When You’re Corrected.
